THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF LEONARD WOOD INSTITUTE (LWI) IS TO CREATE OR RETAIN TECHNOLOGY-RELATED BUSINESSES, SAVE OR CREATE NEW JOBS, GENERATE NEW PRODUCTS OR PROCESSES, INCREASE RESEARCH FUNDING, AND TO FACILITATE THE TRANSFER OF TECHNOLOGY FROM RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO THE MARKETPLACE

LWI WAS AWARDED A DIRECTED APPROPRIATION FROM CONGRESS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING APPLIED RESEARCH PROJECTS FOCUSED ON FORT LEONARD WOOD AND THE MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER OF EXCELLENCE. LWI COMPETITIVELY AWARDS, MANAGES AND COLLABORATES IN PROJECTS TO DEVELOP TECHNOLOGIES AND SERVICES THAT MEET ARMY CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS.
THE SUSTAINABLE OZARKS PROJECT IS A CONSORTIUM THAT WAS CREATED TO FOCUS ON THE IMPROVEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND BUSINESS CLIMATE IN THE FOUR COUNTIES SURROUNDING FORT LEONARD WOOD. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO ENABLE CONTINUED GROWTH OF FORT LEONARD WOOD. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (NAP) AND THE SUSTAINABLE OZARKS PARTNERSHIP.
THE ACTIVITIES OF LEONARD WOOD INSTITUTE (LWI) ARE CREATION OF AN ENVIRONMENT OF SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO ENABLE RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES THAT HAVE AN INHERENT SYNERGY WITH FORT LEONARD WOOD, WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE OR OTHER DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE INSTALLATIONS. LWI UTILIZES THE CAPABILITIES OF MISSOURI BUSINESSES TO PERFORM TECHNOLOGY RELATED RESEARCH AND PROVIDE SERVICES RELATED TO CURRENT AND FUTURE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE PROGRAMS.
