ADOPTION S.T.A.R., INC. (SUPPORT, TRAINING, ADVOCACY & RESOURCES), A NEW YORK STATE AUTHORIZED NON-PROFIT ADOPTION AGENCY, IS A COMPASSIONATE AND UNIQUE AGENCY. THE AGENCY TAKES A STRONG STAND IN FAVOR OF ADOPTION EDUCATION AND BELIEVES NO ONE SHOULD MAKE A DECISION TO ADOPT OR MAKE AN ADOPTION PLAN FOR A CHILD WITHOUT FULLY EDUCATING THEMSELVES ON ADOPTION AND ITS MANY OPTIONS. ADOPTION S.T.A.R. IS COMMITTED TO THE BEST INTERESTS OF CHILDREN AND OFFERS ADOPTION AND ADOPTION-RELATED SERVICES REGARDLESS OF AGE, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY, GENDER EXPRESSION, MARITAL STATUS, RELIGION, DISABILITY, ETHNIC BACKGROUND, COLOR, OR RACE. 2021 REPRESENTED THE TWENTY-SECOND YEAR OF OPERATION FOR ADOPTION S.T.A.R. 58 CHILDREN FOUND HOMES WITH ADOPTION STAR FAMILIES AS COMPARED TO 65 THE YEAR BEFORE AND 66 THE YEAR BEFORE THAT. THIS NUMBER INCLUDES FAMILIES WHO ADOPTED PRIVATELY OR THROUGH INDIRECT REFERRALS OR THROUGH ONE OF THE AGENCY'S CHILD PLACEMENT PROGRAMS.21% WERE HEALTHY CHILDREN AS COMPARED TO 34% THE YEAR BEFORE, 67% WERE CHILDREN BORN AT-RISK FOR SPECIAL NEEDS (THAT COULD MEAN THEY WERE DRUG EXPOSED OR THEIR BIRTH PARENTS HAD A MENTAL HEALTH DIAGNOSIS, ETC.) COMPARED TO 61% IN 2019. 12% WERE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES COMPARED TO 5% IN 2020.
