UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE AND OTSEGO COUNTIES ASSUMES A PROACTIVE ROLE IN WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITH ORGANIZATIONS TO MAXIMIZE THE EFFECT OF LIMITED RESOURCES IN MEETING HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE NEEDS. UNITED WAY IS COMMITTED TO DOING IT UTMOST WITHIN ITS MEANS TO PROVIDE RESOURCES TO MEET THE NEEDS BASED ON A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE REGIONAL POPULATION. FURTHER, IT IS COMMITTED TO MAINTAINING AN ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND APPROPRIATE STAFF WHICH IS RESPONSIVE AND DYNAMIC IN MEETING THE ABOVE GOALS.

THE UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE AND OTSEGO COUNTIES RAISES AND ALLOCATES FUNDS FOR LOCAL HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE PROGRAMS THAT ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE POOR AND WORKING POOR. FUNDS RAISED ARE AWARDED TO PROGRAMS, NOT OVERALL AGENCIES, THAT FOCUS ON HEALTH, EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL STABILITY. THIS IS DONE THROUGH A COMPETITIVE APPLICATION PROCESS. APPLICANTS ARE ASKED TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THEIR 501(C)3 ORGANIZATION HAS SUSTAINABILITY, MEASURABLE OUTCOMES, AND FITS INTO A SPECIFIC IMPACT AREA. THE IMPACT AREAS INCLUDE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, AGING POPULATION, POVERTY AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY ISSUES.
