THE Y IS RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY AS A LEADING COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION, EMPHASIZING ON PROVIDING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL. WE BRING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER, ENCOURAGE GOOD HEALTH, AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS THROUGH FITNESS, SPORTS, FUN, AND SHARED INTERESTS. AS A RESULT 6,533 PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY ARE RECEIVING THE SUPPORT, GUIDANCE, FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO ACHIEVE GREATER HEALTH IN SPIRIT, MIND, AND BODY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT AS OUR NATION STRUGGLES WITH AN OBESITY CRISIS, FAMILIES STRUGGLE WITH WORK/LIFE BALANCE, AND INDIVIDUALS SEARCH FOR PERSONAL FULFILLMENT. OUR PROGRAMS ARE ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE, AND OPEN TO ALL FAITHS, BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES, AND INCOME LEVELS. IN 2020, WE PROVIDED APPROXIMAELY $140,000 IN SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE TO 1,499 PEOPLE WHO OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE FACED ECONOMIC BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION. OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH SECONDARY MEDICARE INSURANCE CARRIERS AND THE GREATER GLENS FALLS SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER PROVIDE 2,374 SENIORS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE HEALTHIER, ACTIVE LIFESTYLES, AS WELL AS PROVIDES A SOCIAL OUTLET FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS. THROUGH A COLLABORATION WITH GLENS FALLS HOSPITAL AND THE CR WOOD CANCER CENTER, OUR FOREVER STRONG PROGRAM GIVES CANCER SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES REGAIN THEIR STRENGTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE AFTER TREATMENT.
OUR YMCA IS COMMITTED TO NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY CHILD AND TEEN. WE BELIEVE THAT ALL KIDS DESERVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE. THAT'S WHY WE HELP YOUNG PEOPLE CULTIVATE THE VALUES, SKILLS, AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT LEAD TO POSITIVE BEHAVIORS, BETTER HEALTH, AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT. OUR YMCA PROGRAMS, SUCH AS CAMP CHEPONTUC, SWIM TEAMS, GYMNASTICS TEAMS, LEADERS' CLUB, AND YOUTH & GOVERNMENT, OFFER A RANGE OF EXPERIENCES THAT ENRICH COGNITIVE, SOCIAL, PHYSICAL, AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH. THIS CLUB MEETS REGULARLY TO RESEARCH AND DEVELOP THEIR OWN BILLS OR COURT CASES IN PREPARATION FOR A STATE CONFERENCE IN ALBANY, NY. THROUGH A COLLABORATION WITH GLENS FALLS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT WE IMPLEMENTED A NO MORE LEARNING GAP PROGRAM WHICH FOCUSED ON THE READING COMPREHENSION LOSS THAT TAKES PLACE EACH SUMMER THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND OUR DISTRICT. 14 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAM. SOME STUDENTS MAINTAINED THEIR READING LEVEL AND MORE THAN HALF INCREASED THEIR READING LEVEL BY ONE BOOK LEVEL OR MORE.
