CHINESE COMMUNITY CENTER, INC. (CCCI) CONDUCTS VARIOUS CULTURAL AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS TO PROMOTE AWARENESS OF CHINESE CULTURE, HEALTHCARE, VOLUNTEER, YOUTH AND SENIOR.
THE ENGLISH DIVISION HELPS THE NEW IMMIGRANTS TO ADAPT TO THE AMERICAN LIFE BY TEACHING THEM ENGLISH (I.E. READING, SPEAKING AND WRITING SKILLS). THIS PROGRAM IMPROVES THEIR SOCIAL ABILITIES AND ENABLES THEM TO GAIN MORE JOB OPPORTUNITIES. THE ENGLISH DIVISION HAS INCREASED THE STUDENT REGISTRATIONS AND CLASS ATTENDANCE IN THE ENGLISH CLASSES BY USING INTERNET TO RECRUIT PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS.
CHINESE CONSOLIDATED BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION (CCBA) OWNS REAL PROPERTY THAT IT RENTS OUT TO A DAY CARE CENTER. LIKEWISE, THEY SPONSOR VARIOUS CHARITABLE AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES LIKE FREE AND LOW COST CONCERTS AND MUSICAL THEATER PRODUCTIONS. CCBA HAS EXPANDED THE EXISTING SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS SUCH AS PUBLIC HOUSING APPLICATIONS, SENIOR HOUSING, AND SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION RELATED ISSUES. CCBA PROVIDED FREE TAX SERVICES IN 2021 FROM MARCH TO MAY, WITH MORE THAN 300 TAX RETURNS FILED BY CCBA VOLUNTEERS. COMMUNITY SERVICES IN 2021 FROM JANUARY TO DECEMBER WITH ABOUT 19 CCBA YEAR-ROUND VOLUNTEERS SERVING AN AVERAGE OF 20+ PEOPLE DAILY. COLLABORATION WITH NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION MEALS-FOR-UNITY IN MONTHLY FREE MEAL DISTRIBUTION EVENT FROM MARCH TO DECEMBER, WITH UP TO 600 FREE PACKAGED MEALS DELIVERED MONTHLY BY CCBA AND MEALS FOR UNITY VOLUNTEERS. COLLABORATION WITH NOT-FOR-PROFIT ENTITY ASIAN AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK (AABANY) IN MONTHLY FREE ONE-ON-ONE LEGAL CLINIC SERVICES FROM JUNE TO DECEMBER, WITH UP TO 35 PEOPLE SERVED EACH MONTH. FREE FLU SHOT EVENTS IN COLLABORATION WITH CVS PHARMACY IN 2021, WITH MORE THAN 350 CHINATOWN RESIDENTS SERVED (85% OF SENIORS 65+ AND 15% UNDER AGE 65). INVITED ELECTED OFFICIALS TO VISIT SMALL BUSINESSES IN CHINATOWN DURING THE PANDEMIC (NYC MAYOR, NYS COMPTROLLER, NYC COMPTROLER, MANHATTAN BOROUGH PRESIDENT, CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, NYS SENATORS, AND NYS ASSEMBLY MEMBERS) AND HELPED FINANCIALLY STRUGGLING SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS RESOLVE ANY COMMERCIAL SUMMONS.
