THE IRTS FOUNDATION BRINGS TOGETHER THE WISDOM AND POWER OF TODAY'S LEADERS TO TRAIN AND EDUCATE THE NEXT GENERATION OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION PROFESSIONALS. OUR PROGRAMS AND DIVERSITY INITIATIVES HELP ENSURE THAT THE BUSINESS RESPONSIBLE FOR INFORMING, ENTERTAINING, AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC REACHES ITS HIGHEST POTENTIAL IN THIS EXCITING DIGITAL AGE.

SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMTHE ANNUAL 9-WEEK IRTS SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH HAS TAKEN PLACE SINCE 1970, RESUMED AS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM WITH REMOTE INTERNSHIPS DUE TO THE CONTINUED STATE OF THE PANDEMIC. COLLEGE STUDENTS WERE SELECTED FROM THROUGHOUT THE NATION FOR THIS DIVERSITY INITIATIVE VIA A NATION-WIDE COMPETITION. THE PROGRAM BEGAN WITH ONE WEEK OF VIRTUAL INDUSTRY ORIENTATION SESSIONS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE MANY CAREER PATHS IN THE MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY. FELLOWS WERE THEN PLACED IN FULL-TIME PAID INTERNSHIPS AT COMPANIES THROUGHOUT THE BUSINESS. THEY CONTINUED TO ATTEND IRTS EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, AND THEY ALSO RECEIVED ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING/CAREER GUIDANCE, IN ADDITION TO HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO NETWORK WITH THE IRTS BOARD, FORMER FELLOWS, AND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS THROUGH A SPECIAL APP THAT REPLICATED SOME OF THE FEATURES OF LIVE EVENTS.
MULTICULTURAL CAREER WORKSHOPSINCE 1983, THE ANNUAL IRTS MULTICULTURAL CAREER WORKSHOP HAS HELPED INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE MEDIA BUSINESS BY EDUCATING COLLEGE STUDENTS AND RECENT GRADUATES ABOUT OPPORTUNITIES IN OUR INDUSTRY, AS WELL AS BY INTRODUCING THEM TO RECRUITERS FROM TOP COMPANIES. IN 2021, 350 CONFEREES WERE ACCEPTED FROM 175 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THE PROGRAM WAS NECESSARILY VIRTUAL DUE TO THE CONTINUATION OF THE PANDEMIC. THE SEMINAR TOOK PLACE ACROSS 3 DAYS. OUR CONFERENCE APP ALLOWED STUDENTS TO DIRECTLY BE SEEN AND NETWORK WITH EACH OTHER AND GUESTS BETWEEN PANELS, AND THE LIVE CHAT COMPONENT ENCOURAGED PARTICIPATION AND SHARING THROUGHOUT. STUDENTS WERE BROUGHT ON CAMERA TO JOIN THE PANELISTS WHENEVER QUESTIONS WERE ASKED.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM SERVICESTHROUGHOUT THE YEAR, IRTS PROVIDES COMPLIMENTARY CAREER ASSISTANCE TO GRADUATES OF ITS PROGRAM AS WELL AS TO STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE NATION VIA GROUP ACTIVITY. THIS TAKES MANY FORMS SUCH AS ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS, APPEARANCES AT VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY CAREER FAIRS OR CONFERENCES, VIRTUAL ALUMNI EVENTS, MENTORING, SHARING OPPORTUNITIES VIA OUR SOCIAL MEDIA GROUPS AND MORE.
