THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY IS TO SERVE VETERANS, THEIR FAMILIES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORS VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS ON THE NATIONAL AND LOCAL LEVELS FOCUSING ON THREE MAJOR AREAS; VETERANS, YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE COMMUNITY.

EMPIRE GIRLS STATE - A HANDS-ON WEEK-LONG EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP, FOCUSING ON AMERICANISM AND THE POLITICAL PROCESS. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO HELP STUDENTS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND DEMOCRATIC IDEALS AND THE PART WE AS INDIVIDUALS PLAY IN CARRYING OUT THESE IDEALS. THE PROGRAM, WHICH HAS BEEN ACCREDITED BY THE NATIONAL COLLEGE CREDIT RECOMMENDATION SERVICES (NATIONAL CCRS), IS A NON-PARTISAN ATTEMPT TO TEACH HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR GIRLS ABOUT GOVERNMENT, POLITICS, AND AMERICANISM.
POPPY - THE AMERICAN LEGION POPPY IS HAND-MADE BY VETERANS FOR WHICH THE VERTERAN RECEIVES MONEY FOR EACH POPPY MADE. MANY OF THESE VETERANS ARE IN VA MEDICAL CENTERS, AND IN SOME CASES, THE THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS DERIVED ARE MOST HELPFUL TO THEM. PROMOTING PUBLIC AWARENESS AND THE HISTORY AND PURPOSE OF THE POPPY IS PART OF THIS PROGRAM.
