SAVE A LIFE CARD - THE CARD IS DESIGNED TO HELP PARENTS, TEACHERS AND COMMUNITIES TO RAISE AWARENESS AND TO REDUCE PREVENTABLE DRUG-RELATED OVERDOSE DEATHS. THE ORGANIZATION SENDS OUT CARDS ACROSS THE COUNTRY COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. THE CARD CONTAINS AWARENESS MESSAGE AND DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOM OF DRUG ABUSE. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF DR. JEFFERY WILKINS (VICE CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY & MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF ADDICTION MEDICINE AT CEDARS-SINAI IN LOS ANGELES), THE ORGANIZATION PLAYED A PART IN GETTING THE 911 GOOD SAMARITAN (AB472) LEGISLATION PASSED IN CALIFORNIA, WHICH TOOK EFFECT ON JANUARY 1, 2013. WITNESSES OF OVERDOSES ARE PROTECTED BY THE NEW LAW WHICH PROVIDES LIMITED IMMUNITY FOR LOW-LEVEL DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS FOR THOSE WHO CALL 911/TAKE SOMEONE TO THE HOSPITAL FOR AN OVERDOSE. THE PASSAGE OF THE LAW WILL MAKE CALIFORNIA THE TENTH STATE IN THE COUNTRY TO ENSURE THAT WITNESSES WHO SEEK HELP IN AN OVERDOSE WILL NOT FACE FEAR OF ARREST FOR POSSESSION OF SMALL AMOUNTS OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES.
