IN 2015, TRANSITCENTER EXPANDED ITS PROGRAMMING AND GRANT-MAKING SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE PRIOR YEAR. THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORED EVENTS IN CHICAGO, SAN FRANCISCO, PORTLAND, OREGON AND CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS TO SHOWCASE ITS REPORT "GETTING TO THE ROUTE OF IT." ADDITIONALLY, TRANSITCENTER PRESENTED FINDINGS FROM THIS AND OTHER REPORTS AT CONFERENCES IN GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, AUSTIN, TEXAS, BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA AND WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA. TRANSITCENTER PUBLISHED "A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF RECENT URBAN TRANSPORTATION", A REPORT STUDYING RECENT INNOVATIONS IN TRANSPORTATION PRACTICE IN SIX MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREAS IN THE US INCLUDING NEW YORK, PORTLAND, CHICAGO, PITTSBURGH, DENVER AND CHARLOTTE. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION HELD EVENTS IN SEATTLE, PORTLAND AND NEW YORK CITY TO SHOWCASE THIS REPORT FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, AND CIVIC LEADERS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TRANSPORTATION FOR AMERICA, TRANSITCENTER CREATED A YEARLONG ACADEMY FOR KEY LEADERS FROM INDIANAPOLIS, NASHVILLE AND RALEIGH TO SHARE BEST PRACTICES, DISCUSS CHALLENGES AND INFLUENCE TRANSPORTATION PLANNING. THIS PROGRAM INVOLVED 21 COMMUNITY LEADERS FROM THOSE THREE CITIES TO COME TOGETHER FOR FOUR WORKSHOPS ON THE SUBJECT OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING. TRANSITCENTER FINANCIALLY SPONSORED "LIVE RIDE SHARE," THE FIRST CONFERENCE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DEDICATED TO CONNECTING THE REGION'S GROWING PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM TO OTHER FORMS OF SHARED MOBILITY. OVER 300 ELECTED OFFICIALS, AGENCY STAFF, ADVOCATES AND ENTREPRENEURS ATTENDED.TRANSITCENTER CONDUCTED ITS FIRST-EVER OPEN CALL FOR GRANT PROPOSALS, SELECTING NINE WINNERS WHO WILL RECEIVE GRANTS OF BETWEEN $50,000 AND $150,000 TO RESEARCH OR ADVOCATE IMPROVED TRANSPORTATION. IN ADDITION TRANSITCENTER PROVIDED SMALLER GRANTS TO TRANSIT ADVOCACY GROUPS IN CITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY. FURTHERMORE, TRANSITCENTER SUPPLIED PHILANTHROPIC GRANTS VIA IOBY, A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION, TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY TO IMPROVE THEIR TRANSIT RIDER EXPERIENCE AND STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMMUNITIES AND THEIR TRANSIT AGENCIES.
