PERFORMANCES:THOUGH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC FORCED STREB TO CLOSE THE DOORS TO SLAM AND CANCEL ALL IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING ON MARCH 12, 2020, THE COMPANY WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO RESPOND CREATIVELY AND NIMBLY TO THE PANDEMIC THROUGH INCREASINGLY AMBITIOUS VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MORE AUDIENCES TO EXPERIENCE AND LEARN ABOUT ELIZABETH STREB'S INIMITABLE WORK AND PROCESS THROUGHOUT FISCAL YEAR 2021. A CONSIDERED RE-OPENING OF SLAM BEGINNING IN JANUARY 2021 PREPARED THE COMPANY FOR AN EXCITING RE-EMERGENCE TO LIVE PERFORMANCES.OCTOBER 2020 SAW THE BROADCAST PREMIERE OF FALLING & LOVING, THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN ELIZABETH STREB, DIRECTOR ANNE BOGART AND PLAYWRIGHT CHARLES MEE, ONLINE ON WNET'S ALL ARTS/PEAK HD CHANNEL. AN ACCOMPANYING "MULTIMEDIA PUBLIC ARTIST TALK WITH Q&A" WAS PRESENTED BY CONNECTICUT COLLEGE ON NOVEMBER 18, 2020, FEATURING ELIZABETH STREB, ANNE BOGART AND ARTISTS FROM THE SITI AND STREB COMPANIES AND ON JUNE 25, 2021 BY COLUMBIA FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS FEATURING ELIZABETH STREB AND ANNE BOGART MODERATED BY LISA DONMALL REEVE. CALLED "STRAIGHT-UP BEAUTIFUL AND INCREDIBLY FUNNY," BY GIA KOURLAS FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES, FALLING & LOVING WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF "7 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND" BY THE TIMES THE WEEK OF ITS BROADCAST PREMIERE. IN ADDITION, THE SHOW WAS ONE OF THE TOP FIVE MOST-WATCHED PERFORMANCES ON THE ALL ARTS VIDEO CHANNEL IN 2020.FROM DECEMBER 7, 2020 TO JANUARY 3, 2021, STREB WAS PRESENTED ON THE JOYCE THEATER'S LIVESTREAM PLATFORM. THE VIRTUAL SHOW, MASSIVE ROTATIONS, WAS A CELEBRATION OF THE COMPANY'S LARGE-SCALE, INTRICATELY DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED ACTION MACHINES INCLUDING MOLINETTE AND PLATESHIFT (2019), ASCENSION (2011) GIZMO (2010) AND REVOLUTION (2006). AN ASSOCIATED ARTIST TALK FEATURING ELIZABETH STREB WAS ALSO PRESENTED AND AVAILABLE BEGINNING DECEMBER 10, 2020. THE PERFORMANCE WAS RECOMMENDED AS ONE OF "5 THINGS TO DO THIS NEW YEAR'S WEEKEND" BY THE NEW YORK TIMES AND VIEWED BY OVER 1,600 INDIVIDUALS DURING ITS RUN.FROM DECEMBER 11, 2020 TO JANUARY 24, 2021, STREB PRESENTED DANGER:EVERYDAY OBJECTS, A VIRTUAL SLAM HOME SEASON PERFORMANCE AND Q&A SHOWCASING A BODY OF ELIZABETH STREB'S WORK HIGHLIGHTING QUOTIDIAN OBJECTS AS EXTREME ACTION HARDWARE. THE PROGRAM WAS ACCOMPANIED BY AN EXCLUSIVE VIRTUAL CONVERSATION AND Q&A WITH ELIZABETH STREB, ACTION HERO ALUMS AND COLLABORATORS, MODERATED BY LIBRETTIST LAURA FLANDERS ON DECEMBER 15, 2020 AT 7 PM.IN JANUARY 2021, THE COMPANY BEGAN A CONSIDERED IN PERSON SOFT RE-OPENING, WITH FULL COMPANY REHEARSALS RESUMING IN APRIL 2021. DURING THE REHEARSAL PERIOD FROM APRIL-JUNE 30, 2021, ELIZABETH STREB AND THE STREB EXTREME ACTION COMPANY CREATED A NEW FULL-LENGTH WORK WHICH WAS LATER PREMIERED IN AUGUST 2021 AT JACOB'S PILLOW DANCE FESTIVAL AND BEGAN TOURING IN 2022. THE COMPANY ALSO PREPARED FOR AN AMBITIOUS SITE-SPECIFIC COMMISSION BY BROOKFIELD ARTS FOR SEPTEMBER 2021,AND AN APPEARANCE AT FALL FOR DANCE IN OCTOBER 2021. IN LATE JUNE 2021, STREB ALSO RESUMED OFFERING FREE ACCESS TO OPEN REHEARSALS AT SLAM.EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING @ SLAM:STREB'S POPACTION SCHOOL AND ESPANA-STREB TRAPEZE ACADEMY CLASSES ENABLE YOUTH AND ADULTS TO ENGAGE WITH THE SHEER PHYSICALITY OF ELIZABETH STREB'S UNIQUE, SIGNATURE STYLE OF ACTION AND MOVEMENT. CLASSES INTERTWINE DANCE, ATHLETICS, BOXING, RODEO, HOLLYWOOD-STYLE STUNT WORK, TRAPEZE, ACROBATICS AND CIRCUS ARTS. UPON ITS CLOSURE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, STREB LAUNCHED STREB REMOTE TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY ENGAGED AND ACTIVE DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. VIRTUAL CLASSES CONTINUED THROUGHOUT FISCAL YEAR 2021 WITH A SOFT REOPENING LAYING THE GROUNDWORK FOR INCREASED IN PERSON PROGRAMMING IN EARLY 2021.* THROUGHOUT FY21, 290 ONLINE CLASS SESSIONS ENGAGED 181 ADULTS AND 94 YOUTHS. LIMITED OUTDOOR, PRIVATE, AND POD LESSONS WERE INTRODUCED IN FEBRUARY 2021. 293 PRIVATE AND GROUP CLASSES WERE OFFERED IN-PERSON AT SLAM, AND A PARTNERSHIP WITH BROOKFIELD ARTS BROUGHT STREB'S TEACHINGARTISTS TO BROOKFIELD PLACE FOR FREE OUTDOOR PUBLIC CLASSES BEGINNING IN JUNE 2021.* SUMMER CAMP ENGAGED 23 YOUTH PARTICIPANTS ONLINE OVER 7 WEEKS IN SUMMER 2020. SESSIONS INCLUDED KID POPACTION (AGES 8-18) EACH MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY AT 1:30 PM, FROM JULY-AUGUST 2020, AND FRIDAY ACTION CLUB (AGES 7-18) EACH FRIDAY AT 11:00 AM IN JULY 2020, DURING WHICH CAMPERS STUDIED CIRCUS ARTS, POPACTION, CHOREOGRAPHY AND PRODUCTION.* TEEN AND TWEEN ACTION CLUBS ARE MONTHLY, SATURDAY EVENING, SKILL BUILDING AND SOCIAL NETWORKING EVENTS DURING WHICH YOUTH AGED 10-16 ENGAGE WITH PEERS, MEETING NEW PHYSICAL, ARTISTIC, AND SOCIAL CHALLENGES. IN FY21, 28 TEENS AND TWEENS PARTICIPATED IN 12 MONTHLY ACTION CLUBS, HELD ONLINE VIA ZOOM.* STREB KID COMPANY OFFERED 12 DIVERSE, ADVANCED STUDENTS AGES 12-16 WITH CHOREOGRAPHIC AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES PLUS EXTENSIVE INTERACTION WITH STREB TEACHING ARTISTS AND COMPANY MEMBERS. STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN 1 ONLINE SESSION AND 12 IN-PERSON SESSIONS AT MCCARREN PARK IN WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN. TWO VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES ON 7/31/20 AND 12/18/20 GAVE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM THEIR DANCE SKILLS FOR 105 FRIENDS AND FAMILY. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & ACCESS:STREB PARTNERS WITH A RANGE OF SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO REACH A DIVERSE CONSTITUENCY, INCLUDING LOCAL YOUTH AND FAMILIES, IMMIGRANTS, AND INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES. WHILE OUR SHIFT TO VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING IN 2020 CAME WITH SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES, IT HAS ALSO HAD THE UNEXPECTED SILVER LINING OF ATTRACTING PARTICIPANTS AND PARTNERSHIPS FROM WIDER GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS, ABILITIES, AND AGE GROUPS.*STREB OFFERED IN SCHOOL RESIDENCIES ON A MODIFIED BASIS FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR, WITH POPACTION ACTIVITIES OFFERED ONLINE AND OUTDOORS. 19 SIXTH-GRADE STUDENTS FROM BROOKLYN INDEPENDENT ATTENDED A 1.5HR FIELD TRIP AND POPACTION SESSION AT FORT GREENE PARK ON 10/23/20.POLY PREP ACADEMY PARTICIPATED IN A VIRTUAL RESIDENCY, INCLUDING NINE 45-MIN ONLINE SESSIONS FOR 33 FIFTH-GRADE STUDENTS FROM 11/9/20 TO 5/12/21.*STREB PARTNERED WITH WIN (WOMEN IN NEED) TO ENGAGE 17 HOMELESS WOMEN AND YOUTH IN A VIRTUAL POPACTION RESIDENCY INCLUDING 7 1-HR SESSIONS FROM 8/6/20 TO 9/17/20. VIRTUAL SESSIONS WERE TAILORED SPECIFICALLY FOR WIN'S CONSTITUENCY AND INCLUDED POPACTION, SKILL BUILDING, AND GAMES DESIGNED TO FOSTER SOCIAL NETWORKING. THE FINAL CLASS INCLUDED A SHOWING OF A PROFESSIONAL VIDEO OF DANCES AND ACTION SEQUENCES CREATED BY STUDENTS, ATTENDED BY 7 FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS.*FROM 1/4/21 TO 1/15/21 STREB PRESENTED ITS NEW WINTER INTENSIVE, A 2-WEEK PROGRAM CONSISTING OF OF 10 SESSIONS FOR 15 ADVANCED ADULT DANCERS. STUDENTS LEARNED STREB REPERTORY, INCLUDING TWO OF ELIZABETH'S SEMINAL SOLOS, LITTLE EASE AND ADD. EACH WEEKLONG SESSION CULMINATED IN A VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE BY STUDENTS, VIEWED BY 42 ATTENDEES.* STREB BEGAN A PARTNERSHIP WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF NYC TO BRING VIRTUAL PERSONAL BEST POPACTION CLASSES TO THIS DIVERSE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING UNDERSERVED YOUTH.RENTAL PROGRAMSLAM, THE ORGANIZATION'S CONVERTED WILLIAMSBURG WAREHOUSE, WITH 24' CEILINGS, 22' AUTOMATED TRUSSES AND A BRIGHTLY COLORED, COLUMN FREE 50'X50' FOOTPRINT, IS A UNIQUE SPACE WHICH EMBRACES AND INCUBATES A VIBRANT COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS WORKING AT THE INTERSECTION OF DANCE, EXTREME ACTION, AERIAL ARTS AND CIRCUS. AS SUCH, STREB'S RENTAL PROGRAM PROVIDES SPACE TO A DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF LOCAL ARTISTS TO WORK, CREATE, TEACH, REHEARSE, DOCUMENT, FILM, AND PERFORM A RANGE OF WORKS. STREB OFFERS SUBSIDIZED RENTAL RATES FOR WORKING ARTISTS WHO BENEFIT FROM OUR UNIQUE SPACE AND PHILOSOPHY AND HOSTS CURATED "FRIDAY NIGHTS AT SLAM" FOR THESE ARTISTS TO PERFORM IN OUR VENUE FOR A LIVE AUDIENCE. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, WE AIM TO EMBODY OUR COMMITMENT TO WORK THAT IS GUIDED BY STREB'S PRINCIPLES OF ARTISTIC EXPERIMENTATION, INCLUSIVENESS, OPEN ACCESS, AUDIENCE SOVEREIGNTY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
