PROGRAM SERVICESSINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1983 BY RUTH AND SKITCH HENDERSON, THE NEW YORK POPS (TNYP) HAS PERFORMED AN ANNUAL CONCERT SERIES AT CARNEGIE HALL AND REMAINS AMONG THE VENUE'S MOST PRESENTED ENSEMBLES.THROUGH CONCERTS AND AN ANNUAL BIRTHDAY GALA, MUSIC DIRECTOR STEVEN REINEKE AND TNYP ORCHESTRADELIGHT NEARLY 20,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS ANNUALLY. DUE TO THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC NOVEL CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 OUTBREAK IN MARCH 2020 TNYP SUSPENDED IN-PERSON LIVE CONCERTS AT THE DIRECTION OF STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES. ALL PROGRAMMING WAS TRANSITIONED ON-LINE WITH THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF OURSTAFF, MUSICIANS, ARTISTS, STUDENTS, AND AUDIENCE MEMBERS THE PRIORITY.
SEE SCHEDULE OEDUCATION/COMMUNITYPOPSED MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS HAVE REACHED MORE THAN 100,000 NYC STUDENTS SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1991. POPSED PROVIDES FREE PROGRAMS TO PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS IN ALL FIVE BOROUGHS OF NYC AND MANY TITLE 1 SCHOOLS. POPSED CONSISTS OF THREE CORE PROGRAMS KIDS IN THE BALCONY (KIB) (CONCERT EXPERIENCE WITH PRE-CONCERT CURRICULUM); RESIDENCIES (IN-SCHOOL CHORAL, INSTRUMENTAL, AND MUSIC HISTORY CLASSES); KIDS ON STAGE (KOS) (INSTRUMENTAL COACHING CULMINATING WITH STUDENTS PERFORMING ALONGSIDE THE ORCHESTRA AT CARNEGIE HALL). IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC ALL PROGRAMMING SWITCHED TO REMOTE LEARNING. IN 2021 WE CREATED KIB "MEET THE MUSICIANS" A 20-VIDEO EDUCATIONAL SERIES ABOUT MUSICIANS OF THE ORCHESTRA AND THEIR INSTRUMENTS. SHARED WITH KIB PARTNERS TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR REMOTE MUSIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM, ALONG WITH FREE ACCESS TO OUR VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES. KOS TRANSITIONED TO A FULLY VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE ENTITLED KIDS ON THE VIRTUAL STAGE WITH 36 STUDENTS WHO WERE FEATURED IN THREE FULLY-PRODUCED MUSIC VIDEOS. RESIDENCIES WERE FULLY VIRTUAL IN COLLABORATION WITH OUR PARTNER SCHOOLS.
