NATIONAL: JANE ADDAMS PEACE ASSOCIATION STARTED THE BOOKS IN THEIR HANDS PROGRAM. THE PEACE ASSOCIATION WAS AWARDED A CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT TO PARTNER ON A RACIAL DISPARITY GRANT WITH THE ILLINOIS ASSOCIATION FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH BRINGING BLACK AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATORS TO CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO SHOW STUDENTS THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO LOOK LIKE THEM WRITING AND ILLUSTRATING BOOKS. THE PEACE ASSOCIATION WILL DONATE JANE ADDAMS CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARD WINNING BOOKS TO THE STUDENTS.
LOCAL: JANE ADDAMS PEACE ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCED 10 FINALISTS FOR THE 2021 CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARD. THE PEACE ASSOCIATION HOSTED ITS FIRST VIRTUAL CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARD CEREMONY IN 2021. OVER 200 PEOPLE REGISTERED FOR THE EVENT. SEVERAL CLASSES JOINED THE REMOTE CEREMONY. ONE WINNER IN EACH OLDER CHILDREN'S BOOK CATEGORY AND YOUNGER CHILDREN'S BOOK CATEGORY WERE HONORED AS WELL AS TWO FINALISTS IN EACH CATEGORY.
