CHILD & ADULT PROGRAMS:CARVER CENTER CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS FOCUS ON THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN FROM PRE-SCHOOL THROUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IN COLLABORATION WITH 5 STEPS TO FIVE, WE WORK WITH PARENTS TO ADDRESS KEY DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF FIVE. DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, THE ELEMENTARY AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM WAS HELD VIRTUALLY AND MATCHED TEEN VOLUNTEERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY TO TUTOR AND MENTOR CHILDREN. SUMMER PROGRAMMING PROVIDES RECREATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT. CARVER CENTER TYPICALLY OFFERS A SIX-WEEK FULL-DAY PROGRAM THAT SERVES 160 CHILDREN, HOWEVER THE PROGRAM WAS SUSPENDED IN SUMMER OF 2020 DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. CARVER'S FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM, AN INITIATIVE THAT IS PARTIALLY FUNDED THROUGH THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION'S CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM (CACFP), TYPICALLY SERVES APPROXIMATELY 1,200 NUTRITIOUS MEALS PER DAY. THE AFTERSCHOOL MEALS WERE SUSPENDED IN 2020-2021 DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BUT THE PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS MOSTLY CONTINUED. DURING THE SUMMER OF 2020, CARVER CENTER DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 18,000 BREAKFASTS AND 18,000 LUNCHES TO PORT CHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT CHILDREN, 76% OF WHOM ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE OR REDUCED-FEE LUNCH DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.
