THE BROOKHAVEN EMPLOYEES RECREATION ASSOCIATION IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND SOCIAL EVENTS TO EMPLOYEES OF BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY (BNL). BNL IS A SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FACILITY FUNDED BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY AND EMPLOYEES APPROXIMATELY 2,700 EMPLOYEES. . ALL MEMBERS OF BERA'S GOVERNING BOARD ARE EMPLOYEES OF BNL AND ARE ELECTED BY THE EMPLOYEES OF BNL TO THREE YEAR TERMS. ALL BOARD MEMBERS AND OFFICERS SERVE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS AND RECEIVE NO COMPENSATION. PARTICIPANT FEES ARE OFFERED AT OR NEAR COST TO BNL EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES.

DURING FY21, BERA OFFERED VARIOUS CLASSES, PROVIDES A SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM FOR BNL EMPLOYEES, OPERATES AN EMPLOYEES STORE WHICH SELLS BNL RELATED MERCHANDISE. OPERATES A SWIMMING POOL OPEN TO ALL BNL EMPLOYEES. ALL FACILITIES ARE PROVIDED BY BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY AND ARE THE PROPERTY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. ALL ACTIVITIES ARE OFFERED AT AT OR NEAR COST TO ALL EMPLOYEES.
