CANCER CONNECTION OFFERS A HAVEN WHERE PEOPLE LIVING WITH CANCER LEARN HOW TO COPE (CONT. ON SCH. O) WITH THE CHANGES AND EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES THAT ACCOMPANY A CANCER DIAGNOSIS. WE WELCOME PARTICIPANTS, CAREGIVERS, AND FAMILIES LIVING WITH ALL CANCER DIAGNOSES.

CANCER CONNECTION OFFERS MANY PROGRAMS TO PARTICIPANTS TO RELIEVE STRESS AND TO REGAIN PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL STRENGTH. IN 2021, CANCER CONNECTION CONTINUED TO OFFER PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THROUGH VIRTUAL TECHNOLOGY AND BY TELEPHONE. THE PROGRAMS OFFERED ONLINE WITH A TELEPHONE OPTION WERE: A MINDFUL PRACTICE AT HOME, KNITTING AT HOME, MUSIC & MOVEMENT, REST TO HEAL AT HOME, AND SPIRIT OF THE WRITTEN WORD. WE PROVIDED 331 PROGRAM SESSIONS IN 2021.CANCER CONNECTION'S INTEGRATIVE THERAPISTS CREATE A HAVEN OF PEACE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH A CANCER DIAGNOSIS AND THEIR LOVED ONES. IN 2021, WE CONTINUED TO OFFER CALMING STRATEGIES RECORDINGS AND 30-MINUTE CALMING STRATEGIES TELEHEALTH PHONE SESSIONS WITH SOME OF OUR INTEGRATIVE THERAPY PRACTITIONERS. (SEE SCHEDULE O)WE PROVIDED 677 INDIVIDUAL INTEGRATIVE THERAPY SESSIONS IN 2021.CANCER CONNECTION'S BEFRIENDING VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF PROVIDE A WARM HEART AND A LISTENING EAR. THEY SPEAK WITH PEOPLE EACH DAY WHO ARE LIVING WITH A CANCER DIAGNOSIS, ALONG WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS. PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC, PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO WALK INTO CANCER CONNECTIONAND MEET WITH A BEFRIENDER FOR SUPPORT AND TO SIGN UP FORPROGRAMS, AS WELL AS CALLING THE CENTER FOR SUPPORT. IN 2021, WE CONTINUED TO OFFER BEFRIENDER SUPPORT BY TELEPHONE, EITHER IN RESPONSE TO PHONE MESSAGES OR AS OUTREACH CALLS TO CURRENT AND NEW PARTICIPANTS FOR ONGOING SUPPORT.PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED 222 MEETINGS OF CANCER CONNECTION'S SUPPORT GROUPS, BY REMOTE TECHNOLOGY OR PHONE: BREAST CANCER, GYNECOLOGIC CANCERS, SELF-CARE SKILLS AND SUPPORT, BEREAVEMENT, CAREGIVERS AND FAMILIES, MEN LIVING WITH CANCER, METASTATIC BREAST CANCERAND TWO ALL CANCER SUPPORT GROUPS. ALL SERVICES ARE FREE OF CHARGE; NO FEES OR INSURANCE REQUIRED.
THE CANCER CONNECTION THRIFT SHOP WAS ESTABLISHED AS A PROGRAM OF CANCER CONNECTION TO PROVIDE A MEANINGFUL (NOT TO MENTION "GREEN") COMMUNITY SERVICE AND A MEANS FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO ENSURE THE FINANCIAL STRENGTH OF CANCER CONNECTION'S PROGRAMS BY GENERATING A STABLE, CONSISTENT INCOME WHICH DIRECTLY SUPPORTS CANCER CONNECTION. OFTEN, PARTICIPANTS IN CANCER CONNECTION'S PROGRAMS WANT TO GIVE BACK IN RETURN FOR THE SUPPORT THEY RECEIVED. THEY DO SO BY DONATING TO OR VOLUNTEERING AT THE THRIFT SHOP. THE THRIFT SHOP IS ANOTHER WAY TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES AS WELL AS ANOTHER PLACE WHERE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE BEFRIENDED.
