COMPANY ONE THEATRE WAS FOUNDED IN 1998 TO INTEGRATE BOSTON AUDIENCES, CHALLENGE THE CITY'S SOCIAL DIVIDES AND FOSTER A NEW GENERATION OF THEATRE-MAKERS AND THEATREGOERS. SINCE THEN WE HAVE BECOME A NATIONALLY RENOWNED, AWARD-WINNING THEATRE COMPANY IN RESIDENCE AT THE BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS. MISSION: COMPANY ONE THEATRE BUILDS COMMUNITY AT THE INTERSECTION OF ART AND SOCIAL CHANGE. VISION: A BOSTON DEFINED BY JUSTICE, EQUITY, AND ARTISTIC INNOVATION. MANIFESTO: WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY, WHERE EVERY AUDIENCE MEMBER, ARTIST, STUDENT, AND SUPPORTER HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIGHT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE. ARTISTIC PROGRAMS: STAGE PRODUCTIONS - C1'S AWARD WINNING PRODUCTIONS REACH OVER 6,000 PATRONS ANNUALLY AND SERVE BOSTON'S MOST DIVERSE AUDIENCES. ENTERTAINING AND SOCIALLY RELEVANT PLAYS TAKE PLACE IN COLLABORATION WITH PARTNERS ACROSS THE BOSTON AREA. IN THE FISCAL YEAR IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED AUGUST 31, 2020, COMPANY ONE PRODUCED ONE SUCCESSFUL STAGE PLAY IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY. TICKET PRICES ARE KEPT AFFORDABLE, INCLUDING PAY- WHAT-YOU-WANT PERFORMANCES, STUDENT TICKETS, DISCOUNT OFFERS AND 25 FULL PRICED TICKETS FOR EARLY SHOWS IN EACH RUN. WE EMPLOYED OVER 60 LOCAL ARTISTS AND PRODUCTION STAFF DURING THE SEASON. C1 PLAYLAB: AMPLIFIES NEW VOICES AND CREATES POINTS OF ACCESS INTO A PROFESSIONAL THEATRE COMPANY - PARTICULARLY FOR WOMEN, PEOPLE OF COLOR, AND WRITERS WITHOUT AFFILIATIONS WITH GRADUATE TRAINING PROGRAMS - AND TO PROVIDE THESE WRITERS WITH THE TOOLS AND RESOURCES NECESSARY TO GROW AND COLLABORATE NOT ONLY AS ARTISTS BUT AS ACTIVISTS. FELLOWS LEVEL GIVES PLAYWRIGHTS ONE-ON-ONE DRAMATURGICAL SUPPORT TOWARDS THE CREATION OF A NEW FULL-LENGTH PLAY. THE UNIT, FOCUSED ON EARLY CAREER PLAYWRIGHTS, OFFERS A SERIES OF MASTER CLASSES FOCUSING ON, NOT ONLY WRITING, BUT CAREER AND NETWORK DEVELOPMENT. PLAYLAB BOOTCAMP: OFFERS INTENSIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MASTER CLASSES STAFFED BY ARTISTIC LEADERS FROM THE LOCAL AND NATIONAL FIELDS, FOCUSING ON NEW WORK DEVELOPMENT. OFFERED FOR FREE THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY.


EDUCATION PROGRAMS: STAGE ONE: IN-SCHOOL - A PARTNERSHIP WITH BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PROVIDING SCHOOL DAY INSTRUCTION SERVING 7 HIGH SCHOOLS AND 1 MIDDLE SCHOOL, REACHING OVER 400 STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM IS FLEXIBLE AND COMPREHENSIVE, AND THE CURRICULUM INTEGRATES PERSONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT, GROUP DYNAMICS, COMMUNICATION, WRITING, AND PERFORMANCE WHILE FOCUSING ON STUDENT-WRITTEN WORK. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ACTORS- LOW COST CLASSES DESIGNED FOR WORKING ACTORS AND THOSE NEW TO THE PROFESSION. THESE CLASSES, RUN BY PROFESSIONAL ACTING COACHES AND DIRECTORS, HELP ACTORS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THEIR PERFORMANCE SKILLS WHILE PREPARING THEM FOR AUDITIONS. CLASS GRADUATES HAVE GONE ON TO WORK IN NEARLY EVERY THEATRE IN BOSTON. CONNECTIVITY & ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS: MAKING DEEP CONNECTIONS AND EXPANDING OUR NETWORK AND IMPACT BY BUILDING LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS WITH INVESTED COMMUNITY PARTNERS. SOCIAL ACTION - WORKING WITH ORGANIZATIONAL PARTNERS TO PROVIDE TANGIBLE OPPORTUNITIES TO AFFECT CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITIES.
