Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
HOSPITALITY HOMES PROVIDES TEMPORARY HOUSING (ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON SCHEDULE O...)(CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1...) IN VOLUNTEER HOST HOMES AND OTHER DONATED ACCOMMODATIONS FOR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF PATIENTS SEEKING CARE AT BOSTON-AREA MEDICAL CENTERS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THROUGH ITS NETWORK OF CLOSE TO 120 HOST HOMES, HOSPITALITY HOMES OFFERS NOT ONLY A COMFORTABLE BED IN WHICH TO SLEEP, BUT ALSO A COMPASSIONATE PRESENCE IN AN UNFAMILIAR CITY AND A WELCOMING HOME TO RETURN TO FOR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS WHO SPEND LONG DAYS AT THE HOSPITAL, SUPPORTING THEIR LOVED ONES. HOSPITALITY HOMES IS UNIQUE AMONG BOSTON-AREA HOSPITAL HOUSING PROGRAMS BECAUSE IT IS OPEN TO ALL FAMILIES, REGARDLESS OF THEIR INCOME LEVEL, BACKGROUND, NATIONALITY, ETHNICITY, RELIGION, GENDER IDENTITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, ABILITY, AGE, OR DIAGNOSIS.(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)OVER 60 PERCENT OF THE PROGRAM'S GUESTS HAVE ANNUAL HOUSEHOLD INCOMES UNDER $50,000, AND ALL FAMILIES ARE CHALLENGED WITH THE HIGH COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH SERIOUS AND/OR CHRONIC ILLNESS. BY PROVIDING HOUSING AT NO OR LOW COST, HOSPITALITY HOMES SEEKS TO ALLEVIATE FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS AND ENABLE FAMILIES TO FOCUS BOTH THEIR FINANCIAL AND THEIR EMOTIONAL RESOURCES ON THEIR HOSPITALIZED LOVED ONES. MANY GUESTS REPORT THAT, WITHOUT THE HOUSING THAT HOSPITALITY HOMES OFFERS, THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS SIMPLY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE LIFE-SAVING OR LIFE-CHANGING TREATMENT THEY NEED. OVER THE COURSE OF ITS 38-YEAR HISTORY, HOSPITALITY HOMES HAS PROVIDED CLOSE TO 200,000 NIGHTS OF HOUSING. IN THE LAST TEN YEARS ALONE, THE ORGANIZATION HAS SERVED OVER 12,800 GUESTS WHO TRAVELED FROM OVER 50 U.S. STATES AND TERRITORIES AND 69 COUNTRIES, SAVING THEM MORE THAN $18.8M IN ESTIMATED EQUIVALENT HOTEL FEES. THESE GUESTS ACCOMPANIED PATIENTS SEEKING TREATMENT AT 26 BOSTON-AREA HEALTHCARE FACILITIES, AND STAYED AN AVERAGE OF 12 NIGHTS.DURING 2021, THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEER HOST HOMES AVAILABLE WAS STILL DRAMATICALLY LIMITED AS THE PANDEMIC WORE ON AND AS PEOPLE CONTINUED TO USE THEIR MODIFIED GUEST ROOMS AS HOME OFFICES, OR HAD FAMILY MEMBERS HOME FROM SCHOOL OR WERE FEARFUL OR CAUTIOUS GIVEN THE MANY TURNS THE VIRUS HAD TAKEN. ADDITIONALLY, THE CDC AND THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES PLACED RESTRICTIONS ON CAPACITY LIMITS. EVEN SO, WE REMAINED OPEN AND TOOK CARE OF MORE NIGHTS OF STAY IN 2021 THAN EVER BEFORE: 11,068 WITH AN AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY OF 14 NIGHTS. WE DID THIS BY KEEPING OUR MISSION OF HELPING FAMILIES AT THE FOREFRONT AND BY UTILIZING SIGNIFICANT CASH RESERVES, NEGOTIATING DISCOUNTED RATES WITH SELECT LOCAL HOTEL PARTNERS, CORPORATE FURNISHED APARTMENT PARTNERS, AND SECURING ADDITIONAL DONATED APARTMENTS AS WELL AS APPEALING TO MANY GENEROUS DONORS AND SEEKING SUPPORT THROUGH SPECIFIC GRANT PROVIDERS.
