THE MISSION OF THE BOSTON AREA RAPE CRISIS CENTER (BARCC) IS TO END SEXUAL VIOLENCE THROUGH HEALING AND SOCIAL CHANGE. BARCC IS ONE OF THE OLDEST INDEPENDENT RAPE CRISIS CENTER IN THE COUNTRY AND THE ONLY RAPE CRISIS CENTER IN THE GREATER BOSTON AREA. THEY PROVIDE A RANGE OF INCLUSIVE EMPOWERMENT-BASED SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE TO SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES AGES 12 YEARS AND OLDER. BARCC BEGAN AS A VOLUNTEER BASED ORGANIZATION AND CONTINUES TO DEPEND ON VOLUNTEERS TO PROVIDE ITS SERVICES. THE NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INCLUDES 40 HOURS OF INITIAL RAPE CRISIS COUNSELOR TRAINING AND REGULAR, ONGOING SUPERVISION, SUPPORT AND TRAINING.

CLIENT SERVICES: COUNSELING: BARCC WORKS WITH SEXUAL VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND THEIR LOVED ONES TO ADDRESS AND HEAL FROM SEXUAL VIOLENCE THROUGH 2,670 SESSIONS EACH YEAR. 24-HOUR CRISIS HOTLINE: HIGHLY TRAINED AND SUPERVISED VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE IN THE MOMENT SUPPORT 24-7 TO 4,200 CALLERS CASE MANAGEMENT: BARCC OFFERS OVER 1,000 SESSIONS FOR SHORT-TERM ASSISTANCE TO SURVIVORS WITH THE COMPLEX ISSUES THAT ARISE IN THE AFTERMATH OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE E.G., EMERGENCY HOUSING, AND VICTIM COMPENSATION. LEGAL ADVOCACY: BARCC OFFERS COMPREHENSIVE LEGAL ASSISTANCE HELPING SURVIVORS EXPLORE AND/OR WORK THROUGH CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LEGAL ISSUES STEMMING FROM AN ASSAULT THROUGH 1,200 SESSIONS EACH YEAR. ACCESS TO FORENSIC INFORMATION (AFI) PROJECT: WE WORK WITH AGENCIES THROUGHOUT MASSACHUSETTS TO ENSURE SURVIVORS RECEIVE ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR OPTIONS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT EXAMS AND EVIDENCE COLLECTION. PRISON RAPE ELIMINATION ACT (PREA) RAPE CRISIS SERVICES: SUPPORTS SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE WHO ARE INCARCERATED IN MASSACHUSETTS WITH HOTLINE AND HOSPITAL ACCOMPANIMENT SERVICES.
