PUBLICATIONS - THE SOCIETY PUBLISHES 11 PEER-REVIEWED SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS CONSISTENTLY RANKED NEAR THE TOP OF THEIR FIELDS IN IMPACT FACTOR, INCLUDING THE HIGHLY REGARDED BULLETIN OF THE AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY (BAMS), AS WELL AS AWARD-WINNING SCIENTIFIC AND HISTORICAL BOOKS AND A LONG-STANDING SERIES OF METEOROLOGICAL MONOGRAPHS.
MEMBERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION - THE SOCIETY HAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MEMBERS, INCLUDING STUDENTS, TEACHERS, SCIENTISTS AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS, ENTHUSIASTS, AND CORPORATION AND INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS. IT PROVIDES A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES TO MEMBERS, INCLUDING CERTIFICATIONS FOR PROFESSIONALS AND TEACHERS, CAREER INFORMATION, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE WEBINARS AND PODCASTS.
EDUCATION AND POLICY PROGRAMS - THE SOCIETY'S EDUCATION PROGRAM INCLUDES FEDERAL FUNDING AND SOCIETY SUPPORT OF NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED PROGRAMS USING THE STUDY OF THE ATMOSPHERE AND OCEAN TO ENHANCE OR CREATE AN INTEREST IN PRE-COLLEGE STUDENTS IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING. IN ADDITION, THIS INCLUDES THE PRODUCTION AND SALE OF BOOKS PUBLISHED BY THE SOCIETY, DISTRIBUTION THROUGHOUT NORTH AMERICA OF WMO PUBLICATION AND SALE OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL FOR PRE-COLLEGE TEACHERS. THE AMS POLICY PROGRAM PROMOTES THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE WEATHER, WATER, AND CLIMATE SCIENCES AND THEIR PUBLIC USE. THE SOCIETY HELPS THE NATION, AND THE WORLD, AVOID RISKS AND REALIZE OPPORTUNITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE EARTH SYSTEM.
