Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
FROM NOVEMBER 1-12, 2021, SUSTAINUS SENT A DELEGATION TO COP26, THE UN CLIMATE TALKS IN GLASGOW, SCOTLAND. ELEVEN YOUTH CLIMATE LEADERS FROM AROUND THE CONTINENT HAD THE CHANCE, EIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME, TO REPRESENT THEIR COMMUNITIES BY TRAVELING TO THE UNITED NATIONS. THE DELEGATION BROUGHT A NEW PERSPECTIVE TO THE PURPOSE OF THE U.N. CLIMATE NEGOTIATIONS AS A COALITION-BUILDING LOCUS FOR OUR BROADER MOVEMENTS FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE AND INDIGENOUS SOVEREIGNTY. THE COP26 CONFERENCE OCCURRED OUTSIDE THE FISCAL YEAR REPORTED HERE, HOWEVER, EXPENSES WERE INCURRED IN THIS FISCAL YEAR IN PREPARATION.
THE SUSTAINUS STORYSHAPERS FELLOWSHIP WAS AN INCUBATOR PROGRAM FOR MEDIA-MAKERS, STORYTELLERS AND ARTISTS TO CREATE CONTENT ABOUT SYSTEMIC CHANGE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COLLECTIVE WAS TO CO-CREATE MEDIA IN SERVICE TO FRONTLINE CLIMATE JUSTICE EFFORTS, WEAVING LOCAL STORIES INTO NEW NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL NARRATIVES.
AS PART OF OUR MISSION TO TRAIN AND EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE, SUSTAINUS ENGAGES IN OUTREACH AND COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES. THIS WORK INVOLVES A SIGNIFICANT FRACTION OF THE PAID STAFF TIME AS WELL AS TRAVEL AND OTHER EXPENSES.
