THE ARTEMIS INSTITUTE IS DEDICATED TO ENCOURAGING AND ENRICHING EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVE THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CREATIVITY AND EXPERIENCES OF THE NATURAL WORLD. THE INSTITUTE SEEKS TO COUPLE FORMAL EDUCATION WITH OTHER NON-CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS TO CREATE A BROADER PERSPECTIVE FOR THE STUDENT.

THE INSTITUTE BEGAN IN 2003. FROM THAT TIME UNTIL 2015, A FULL-TIME EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM WAS OFFERED IN "IMMERSION" ARCHITECTURE - DESIGN AND BUILD PROJECTS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON COMMUNITY AND NATURE - INCLUDING BACKCOUNTRY TRIPS, RESEARCH, AND FOCUSING ON SUSTAINABILITY. THE INSTITUTE PARTNERED WITH MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY, AND STUDENTS RECEIVED COLLEGE CREDITS FOR TAKING THESE COURSES. FUNDS WERE RAISED THROUGH STUDENT TUITION AND DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS AND FOUNDATIONS. THE ORGANIZATION WAS MOSTLY DORMANT FROM 2015 UNTIL 2021, WITH MINIMAL ACTIVITY. THE FOCUS IS NOW ON COMMUNITY AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS, WHICH IS MEANT TO INSPIRE GREATER AWARENESS OF THE GREATER YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM (GYE). THIS GEOGRAPHIC AREA IS OFTEN COMPARED TO THE SERENGETI IN AFRICA, AND IS ONE OF THE LAST NEARLY WHOLE TEMPERATE ECOSYSTEMS ON EARTH. SPECIFICALLY, A PROJECT CALLED WILDLIFES IS THE FACE OF THESE EFFORTS. AN ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAM BEGAN IN 2022 TO CREATE WALL MURALS AND FINE ART. A NEW WEBSITE CALLED WILDLIFES.ORG HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND LAUNCHED, AND PRESS RELEASES HAVE BEEN MADE. IN SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH EFFORTS FOR THE GYE IN AUGUST THE ORGANIZATION BEGAN EFFORTS TOWARD THE SUPPORT A JOURNALISM ENDEAVOR THAT WILL BE LAUNCHED ONLINE, CALLED THE YELLOWSTONIAN. YELLOWSTONIAN WILL BE DIRECTED BY TODD WILKINSON, A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALIST. IN DECEMBER THE PRIMARY WEBSITE ARTEMISINSTITUTE.ORG WAS HACKED AND THE WEBSITE REQUIRED A COMPLETE CLEANSING AND REBOOT THAT WAS COMPLETED BY AN EXTERNAL EXPERT SUBCONTRACTOR.
