Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE CLEVELAND ARTS PRIZE IDENTIFIES, REWARDS, PUBLICLY HONORS AND PROMOTES THOSE CREATIVE ARTISTS WHOSE ORIGINAL WORK AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS HAVE SET A STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE TO WHICH OTHER ARTISTS CAN ASPIRE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CLEVELAND ARTS PRIZE RECOGNIZES THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE EXPANDED THE COMMUNITY'S PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS AND HELPED MAKE THE REGION MORE HOSPITABLE TO CREATIVE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY WAS VIRTUALLY HELD ON OCTOBER 29, 2020 AND WAS THE 60ST ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY. IT RECOGNIZED THE ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT OF 290 OHIO ARTISTS WHO WERE NOMINATED BY THE PUBLIC AND SELECTED FROM A PANEL OF ESTEEMED JUDGES. CASH AWARDS TOTALING $3,800 WERE PRESENTED TO 2 ARTISTS.
THE LEGACY OF OUR CAP AWARDEES WILL REMAIN WITH US AND FUTURE GENERATIONS FOREVER THROUGH OUR VIDEO DOCUMENTARY PROJECT. THE SHORT DOCUMENTARIES ON EACH OF OUR CAP AWARDEES ARE VIEWED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AND HAVE BECOME PRIMARY TOOLS IN MARKETING FOR THE RECIPIENTS, INSTITUTIONS, AND GALLERIES. THE PRESERVATION OF THE LIVING WORDS AND WORKS OF OUR RECIPIENTS ASSURES A PERMANENT HOME FOR THOSE WHO BUILT AND ENABLED OUR ARTISTIC LEGACY IN NORTHEAST OHIO.
THE SPECIAL EVENTS SERIES, CAPTALKS, CENTERS AROUNDS CAP RECIPIENTS AND REVEALS THE PERSONAL AND COMPELLING BACKSTORIES OF CLEVELAND ARTS PRIZE RECIPIENTS WHILE REFRAMING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ARTISTS AND AUDIENCE INTO A MORE INTIMATE INTERACTION THROUGH STORYTELLING. THE PROGRAMS ARE CENTERED AROUND LIVE STORYTELLING EVENTS WHICH INCLUDE WINNERS FROM A VARIETY OF DISCIPLINES. IN ADDITION, THE DEVELOPMENT OF RELATED PODCASTS WILL FURTHER STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY CONNECTIVITY. WHAT MAKES CAPTALKS DIFFERENT? SPECIAL? CAP RECOGNIZES THAT THERE IS CONSIDERABLE EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE THAT SUPPORTS PUBLIC INTERACTION WITH ART BUT RECOGNIZES THAT THERE ARE FAR FEWER PLATFORMS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE ARTISTS BEHIND THE WORK. THAT LACK OF DIRECT AND PERSONAL CONNECTION REDUCES OPPORTUNITIES FOR FULL COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURAL ASSETS. CAPTALKS ALSO ENABLE ARTISTS TO DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS WITH FELLOW RESIDENTS. THIS PROJECT REFLECTS CAP'S BROADER STRATEGIC ATTENTION TO INCREASING THE ORGANIZATION'S VISIBILITY, RESPONSIVENESS TO THE CURRENT CULTURAL CLIMATE, AND CREATING IMPACT AMONG NEIGHBORING COMMUNITITIES THROUGH ITS GREATEST ASSET - ITS LEGACY OF ARTISTS.
