EARTHECHO EXPEDITIONS IS AN ANNUAL PROGRAM THAT LEVERAGES THE RICH COUSTEAU LEGACY OF EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY TO BRING STEM EDUCATION CONTENT ALIVE FOR TODAY'S 21ST-CENTURY LEARNERS AND THEIR EDUCATORS. EACH EARTHECHO EXPEDITION BEGINS WITH A WEEK-LONG EXPLORATION OF A GEOGRAPHIC AREA FACING AN ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS, EXAMINING THE IMPACTS THAT HUMANS HAVE ON COMMUNITIES AND WATER RESOURCES ACROSS THE GLOBE. IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOCAL EDUCATORS, RESEARCHERS AND ADVOCACY PARTNERS WE PRODUCE OF A SUITE OF CLASSROOM RESOURCES MADE AVAILABLE AT NO COST TO EDUCATORS AND THEIR STUDENTS WORLDWIDE. IN 2020, EARTHECHO BUILT OUT THE EARTHECHO ACADEMY, A VIRTUAL LEARNING SPACE DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE ONLINE COURSES FOR TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WITH ACCESS TO FULLY REMOTE, ASYNCHRONOUS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION MODULES FOR STUDENTS FEATURING SOME OF OUR MOST POPULAR NGSS-ALIGNED CLASSROOM RESOURCES LIKE EARTHECHO EXPEDITION: WATER BY DESIGN.
THE EARTHECHO WATER CHALLENGE IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST CITIZEN SCIENCE PROGRAMS EMPOWERING MORE THAN 1.6 MILLION YOUNG PEOPLE AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN 146 COUNTRIES TO CONNECT WITH AND PROTECT THEIR LOCAL WATERWAYS. PARTICIPANTS MONITOR WATER QUALITY IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, SHARE THEIR FINDINGS THROUGH A GLOBAL ONLINE DATABASE, AND USE THE DATA COLLECTED TO DEVELOP PROJECTS TO PROTECT WATER RESOURCES.
EARTHECHO'S YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL (YLC) IS THE GUIDING VOICE DRIVING THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF EARTHECHO'S GLOBAL PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE WORLDWIDE TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE. THE YLC UNITES 27 YOUNG PEOPLE, AGES 15-22, SELECTED THROUGH A COMPETITIVE, INTERNATIONAL APPLICATION PROCESS, WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED AN ABILITY TO MOBILIZE THEIR COMMUNITIES TO HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR PLANET. YLC MEMBERS EXPAND THE REACH AND IMPACT OF EARTHECHO'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS, DESIGN COLLABORATIVE CAMPAIGNS TO MOBILIZE YOUNG ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS WORLDWIDE, AND LEARN ALONGSIDE A GLOBAL NETWORK OF THEIR PEERS, WHILE GAINING SKILLS TO SUPPORT PERSONAL CONSERVATION WORK.
