JOY IN THE JOURNEY CAMP: JJ CAMP PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL SERVICE TO SCHOOL-AGED YOUTH BETWEEN 4TH AND 12TH GRADES AND COLLEGE-AGED STUDENTS (AS VOLUNTEERS) IN AN ENVIRONMENT SATURATED WITH THE LOVE OF CHRIST. EDUCATION IS NOT LIMITED TO ENGLISH ONLY, BUT ALSO THE LIFE EDUCATION CURRICULUM FOR HEALTHY LIVING, AS WELL AS VARIOUS CHALLENGES DESIGNED TO INCREASE STUDENTS' ABILITY TO APPLY CREATIVITY TO NEW SITUATIONS, WORK AS A TEAM, AND DISCOVER LEADERSHIP SKILLS. PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS LIMITED THE NUMBER OF WEEKS BOTH WINTER CAMPS AND SUMMER CAMPS COULD OPERATE AND EXPATRIATE VOLUNTEERS FROM OVERSEAS COULD NOT ATTEND.
SOAR ORPHANAGE PROJECT: IN 2021 THE EVERGREEN SOAR (SPECIAL NEEDS, ORPHANED, OR ABANDONED CHILDREN'S RESOURCES) PROJECT CONTINUED TO AIM TO SEE THE END OF ABANDONMENT IN SHANXI PROVINCE AND TO CARE FOR THOSE PRECIOUS CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN ABANDONED, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. HOWEVER, PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS REQUIRED THAT WE MAINLY ASSISTED FROM A DISTANCE SO RATHER THAN IN-PERSON CARE AND TRAINING, WE MADE CONTINUOUS DONATIONS OF ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES TO OUR LOCAL PARTNERS CARING FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY INCLUDING ESSENTIAL NUTRIRIONAL SUPPLEMENTS, SEASONAL NEW CLOTHING, OUTERWEAR, SHOES AND HOLIDAY GIFTS OF TOYS AND FOOD. ADOPTION ADVOCACY WORK CONTINUED WITH INTERNATIONAL ADOPTIVE FAMILIES.IN 2021, EVERGREEN CONTINUED ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL ENTITIY IT LAUNCHED IN 2019 BY PROVIDING TRAINING, DONATION OF EQUIPMENT, AND VOLUNTEERING EXPATRIATE TIME FOR ENGLISH AND OTHER CLASSES TO CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY. EXTRA SUPPORT WAS GIVEN TO STAFF AS THEY LAUNCHED A NEW VOCATIONAL TRAINING VENTURE FOR YOUNG ADULTS WITH DISABILITY, AND THE YOUNG ADULTS WERE INCLUDED IN ENGLISH CLASSES WHILE ATTENDING VOCATIONAL TRAINING.
IN ADDITION TO THE 4 MAIN CONTINUING PROGRAMS, EFFS CONDUCTS OTHER PROGRAMS IN CHINA, WHICH INDIVIDUALLY ARE GENERALLY SMALLER AND SHORTER DURATION AND CAN BE MORE VARIABLE OVER TIME DEPENDING ON EMERGING NEEDS IN SHANXI PROVINCE OF CHINA AND THE AVAILABILITY OF EXPAT PERSONNEL WITH APPROPRIATE EXPERTISE. THESE PROGRAM ACTIVITIES INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR THE REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION (RED NPO) AND ON-GOING SEIS SERVICES SUCH AS INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOL TUTORING FOR EXPATRIATES AS WELL AS NEW INITIATIVES. NEW INITIATIVES OFTEN INVOLVE CONSULTING WITH CHINESE PEOPLE AND ENTITIES IN THE AREAS OF MEDICAL SERVICE, FAMILY AND PERSONAL COUNSELING, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION STARTUP, ETC. IN 2021, SUDDEN SEVERE FLOODING LED TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE OF HOMES AND COMMUNITY BUILDINGS IN SHANXI PROVINCE. EVERGREEN PROVIDED DISASTER RELIEF DONATIONS OF TENTS, BLANKETS, LIGHTS, BEDDING, HEATERS, AND WINTER COATS TO ONE SEVERELY DAMAGED VILLAGE.
