CURATORIAL AND EXHIBITION PROGRAMS: DURING THE TIME THAT MOCA WAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC ON ACCOUNT OF THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, THE MUSEUM CONTINUED TO PRESENT A WIDE RANGE OF VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING. ENCOMPASSING FILM SCREENINGS, ARTIST TALKS, AND PANELS VIRTUAL MOCA PRESENTED 23 PUBLIC PROGRAMS DURING THIS TIME FEATURING OVER 60 ARTISTS, WRITERS, AND ORGANIZERS. WHEN THE MUSEUM REOPENED IN 2021 WE WERE ABLE TO PRESENT OUTDOOR PUBLIC PROGRAMS INCLUDING A PERFORMANCE WITH DIMITRI CHAMBLAS AND KIM GORDON AND PRESENTATIONS IN COLLABROATION WITH THE LOS ANGELES POVERTY DEPARTMENT AND CRENSHAW DAIRY MART AS PART OF WE RISE LA.
BUILDING OPERATIONS AND SECURITY:THE MOCA BUILDING, DESIGNED BY CELEBRATED JAPANESE ARCHITECT ARATA ISOZAKI, AND THE GEFFEN CONTEMPORARY BUILDING, SUBTLY RENOVATED BY RENOWNED CALIFORNIA ARCHITECT FRANK GEHRY, ARE MAINTAINED AND SECURED TO ENSURE THE MOST BENEFICIAL AND ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE FOR THE VISITING PUBLIC. WORKING WITH THE ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL, MOCA HIRED A SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTANT AND WORKED TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT AROUND THE MUSEUM'S SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FOCUSED PROGRAMMING.
PUBLIC AFFAIRS/INFORMATION: A VARIETY OF PROMOTIONAL, ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS WERE PRODUCED BY MOCA'S COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT TO INFORM THE PUBLIC OF MOCA'S ACTIVITIES AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT CONTEMPORARY ART. DURING THE TIME THAT MOCA WAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDED ROBUST ONLINE EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS AND PROMOTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF THESE RESOURCES. THE COMMUNICATIONS TEAM ALSO MANAGED MEDIA REQUESTS DURING THE CLOSURE, AND PUBLICIZED AND MARKETED THE REOPENING OF THE MUSEUM TO THE PUBLIC.
"EDUCATION PROGRAMS: MOCA IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES TO MAXIMIZE ACCESS AND INCLUSION IN THE ARTS. PROGRAMMING WAS PRIMARILY VIRTUAL THIS YEAR UNTIL THE MUSEUM'S REOPENING IN JUNE 2021. IN-DEPTH PROGRAMS INCLUDE CONTEMPORARY ART START (PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS AND VIRTUAL VISITS FOR STUDENTS) AND A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TEEN PROGRAM THAT HOSTS AN ANNUAL TEEN NIGHT. OTHER OFFERINGS ORGANIZED BY MULTIPLE MUSEUM DEPARTMENTS INCLUDED WORKSHOPS AND GUIDES FOR FAMILIES, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, STUDIO VISITS, AND ARTIST TALKS.
