THE GOLDEN GATE AUDUBON SOCIETY (GGAS) ENGAGES PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE THE WONDER OF BIRDS AND TO TRANSLATE THAT WONDER INTO ACTIONS WHICH PROTECT NATIVE BIRD POPULATIONS AND THEIR HABITATS.

EDUCATION:GOLDEN GATE AUDUBONS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING SERVES CHILDREN THROUGH ADULTS WITH CLASSROOM AND FIELD-BASED PROGRAMS. OUR ONGOING LECTURE SERIES SERVED OVER 1100 PEOPLE DELIVERED AS WEBINARS. OUR FIELD TRIP PROGRAM GRADUALLY RETURNED TO A MORE NORMAL OPERATION, WITH PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED, AND ENGAGED OVER 2,000 PEOPLE ON MORE THAN 150 TOURS. OUR BIRDATHON RETURNED WITH IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING, PROVIDING 25 GUIDED TOURS AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES EXPERIENCES TO OVER 350 PEOPLE. OUR EDUCATIONAL CLASSES FOR ADULTS, NOW DELIVERED ONLINE WITH IN-PERSON FIELD TRIPS, SERVED 525 PEOPLE WITH OVER 30 CLASSES. THE FIRST BERKELEY BIRD FESTIVAL HELD ON OCTOBER 17, 2021, SERVED NEARLY 2,000 PEOPLE WITH HANDS-ON CRAFT PROJECTS, SPOKEN ART, CHALK ART, INFORMATION TABLES, AND FIELD TRIPS AROUND TOWN. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)
COMMUNICATIONS:GOLDEN GATE AUDUBONS COMMUNICATION PROGRAM SERVES OUR MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS WITH PRINT AND ONLINE PUBLICATIONS, ACTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS, THE SF BAY OSPREY CAM, AND CAMPAIGNS ON CONSERVATION ISSUES. THE COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM ALSO SUPPORTS ALL CONSERVATION AND EDUCATION EFFORTS OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE GULL, OUR PRINT PUBLICATION IS PUBLISHED FOUR TIMES A YEAR AND DISTRIBUTED TO OVER 6000 HOUSEHOLDS. SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS REACHED OVER 60,000 PEOPLE DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, THROUGH FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, AND TWITTER. THE OSPREY CAM, WHICH FEATURES A NEST ON RICHMONDS WHIRLY CRANE, SAW OVER 60,000 VISITORS ON THE WEBSITE AND THROUGH YOUTUBE AS THE PAIR SUCCESSFULLY FLEDGED THREE YOUNG BIRDS.
HABITAT RESTORATION:IN FISCAL YEAR 2022, OUR HABITAT RESTORATION PROGRAM HELD 87 EVENTS INCLUDING SEVERAL EARTH DAY/MONTH EVENTS. DURING THESE EVENTS, 479 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 2,002 HOURS RESTORING AND MAINTAINING 8 SITES INCLUDING; PIER 94, HERONS HEAD PARK, CRISSY FIELD BEACH, THE NATIVE PLANT PERIMETER GARDEN AT THE BISON PADDOCK AND NORTH LAKE, AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR REGIONAL SHORELINE PARK IN OAKLAND. VOLUNTEERS SPENT SOME OF THOSE HOURS WORKING WITH LITERACY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE (LEJ) AT THEIR NATIVE PLANT NURSERY ON TREASURE ISLAND, UP-POTTING 1550 PLANTS, AND PRUNING/CARING FOR NATIVE PLANTS, INCLUDING SOME USED AT OUR RESTORATION SITES.
