COAST GUARD YOUTH ACADEMY - IN PERSON CLASSROOM SESSION: ENGAGED STUDENTS IN LEARNING ABOUT ANTHONY ALLEN IN 1810 FOUND FREEDOM IN HAWAII. ALLEN WAS ADVISOR TO KING KAMEHAMEHA. STUDENTS WERE GIVEN QUESTIONS TO ANSWER ABOUT ALLEN. THEY LEARNED ABOUT ALLEN'S BEING A SLAVE IN SCHENECTADY, NY, AND HOW HE ESCAPE FINDING HIS WAY TO BOSTON WHERE MET HIS FATHER. ALLEN BECAME A SHIP HAND ON A COMMERCIAL SHIP THAT TOOK HIM AROUND THE WORLD. THE KING'S KUHUNA NUI GIFTED ALLEN SIX ACRES OF LAND NEAR WAIKIKI. HE MARRIED A HAWAIIAN WOMAN AND HAD THREE CHILDREN. WHO LIVED TO ADULT AGE. ALLEN DIED IN 1835.
