FRIENDS OF THE ANIMAL SHELTER (FOTAS) SUPPORTS THE PROGRAMS OF JACKSON COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES WITH TRAINED VOLUNTEERS WHO ASSIST WITH ANIMAL ADOPTION AND CARE. SPECIFIC FOTAS PROGRAMS INCLUDE: VOLUNTEER TRAINING; ADOPTION COUNSELING; ADOPTION OUTREACH; PROVIDING FOSTER HOMES FOR UNDERAGE, ILL OR STRESSED ANIMALS; MEDICAL ASSISTANCE; AND CAPITAL PROJECTS AT THE SHELTER THAT DIRECTLY IMPROVE ANIMAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. SPECIFIC PROGRAMS FOR DOGS INCLUDE: WALKING, TRAINING, PLAYGROUPS FOR SOCIALIZATION, AND "PROJECT STREET DOGS" FOR ASSISTING THE HOMELESS WITH FREE SPAY/NEUTER. SPECIFIC PROGRAMS FOR CATS INCLUDE: CAT CARE, CUDDLING AND SOCIALIZATION, THE "WORKING CATS" PROGRAM WHICH PLACES CATS ON FARMS, AND THE SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES FINANCAL SUPPORT TO INCREASE SPAY/NEUTER TO REDUCE UNWANTED LITTERS.
