CEF IS SERVING AS A STUDENT SUCCESS INNOVATION FUND TO PROMOTE NEW, CREATIVE AND POWERFUL INITIATIVES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' EDUCATION IN OUR COMMUNITY. IT IS AN ADVOCATE FOR AND FUNDS HIGH LEVERAGE PROGRAMS THAT HAVE WELL DEFINED OUTCOMES AND CAN MAKE "BIG IMPACTS" FOR STUDENT SUCCESS. IN COLLABORATION WITH COASTSIDE SCHOOL DISTRICTS, CEF IDENTIFIES CLEAR GOALS, STRATEGIES, AND RESOURCES REQUIRED FOR EACH INITIATIVE TO ACHIEVE RESULTS. THERE ARE SEVERAL MAJOR THEMES FOR CEF BASIC GRANT MAKING AT THIS TIME: - LITERACY (K-3) - COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS (AVID 6TH - 12TH GRADES, SCIENCE, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING) - LEARNING AND ENRICHMENT (INNOVATION GRANTS) GRANTS IN THESE AREAS HAVE FUNDED AND PROMOTED TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND INFORMATIONAL LIBRARIES THAT SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE OUR STUDENTS' READING PROFICIENCY BY THE END OF THIRD GRADE. FORM 990 - CEF ACHIEVEMENTS 2021 THE CABRILLO EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CEF) FUNDS SEVEN PROGRAM SERVICES FOR 3,200 CABRILLO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS COVERING FOUR VITAL EDUCATION PILLARS: LITERACY, SCIENCE, COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELLNESS. IN ADDITION TO SUPPORTING CRITICAL SCHOOL PROGRAMS, CEF ALSO PROVIDES YEARLY TEACHER INNOVATION GRANTS AND COASTSIDE FUTURES STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS. LITERACY: BUILDING UPON THE BIG LIFT INITIATIVE, CEF FUNDS LOS LISTOS PRESCHOOL AND BIG LIFT INSPIRING SUMMERS PROGRAM. SCIENCE & COMPUTER SCIENCE: APPROXIMATELY 2000 STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM DEDICATED FACULTY-DIRECTED COLLABORATION TIME TO ASSIST DISTRICT SCIENCE TEACHERS FROM 5TH GRADE TO 12TH GRADE IN BECOMING MODELS AND EXPERTS IN NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS. CEF PARTNERS WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PROVIDE 97,000 FOR A 5TH GRADE SCIENCE SPECIALIST POSITION. WITH THE SUPPORT OF CEF, THE 5TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER CONTINUES TO TEACH 5TH GRADE SCIENCE TO APPROXIMATELY 250 STUDENTS FROM FOUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION TO THIS, CEF FUNDS AP COMPUTER SCIENCE CLASS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS: IN 2021, CEF FUNDS THE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED AVID PROGRAM FOR 6TH AND 12TH GRADE STUDENTS TO DEVELOP THE ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS TO BE COLLEGE AND CAREER READY. SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL WELLNESS: CEF FUNDS BOTH THE CUNHA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DEAN OF ELL AND A CLASS AT THE HIGHSCHOOL CALLED POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY. INNOVATION GRANTS: CEF FUNDS 10 1000 INNOVATION GRANTS TO TEACHERS WITHIN THE CUSD SCHOOLS. THESE GRANTS ALLOW TEACHERS TO THINK OUTSIDE OF THEIR STANDARD CURRICULUM. FOR EXAMPLE, FUNDING PROVIDES ENGAGING MATERIALS FOR THE 5TH GRADE SCIENCE CURRICULUM, EDUCATIONAL GAMES & SUPPLIES TO HELP DEVELOP BASIC STEM SKILLS, AND A DIGITAL ART & DESIGN'S CLASS T-SHIRT LOGO CONTEST RESULTING IN OVER 50 3-COLOR SCREEN PRINTED SHIRTS. COASTSIDE FUTURES/SCHOLARSHIPS: IN 2021, CEF CONTINUES IT'S COLLABORATION WITH THE CABRILLO UNIFIED AND THE LA HONDA / PESCADERO SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE COASTSIDE FUTURES EFFORT. IN 2021, COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE GRANTED TO 61 TOTAL STUDENTS, 51 AT HALF MOON BAY HIGHSCHOOL AND 10 AT LA HONDA PESCADERO FOR A TOTAL OF 30,500.
