Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE IS A YOUTH CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM THAT RELIES ON EDUCATIONAL, ATHLETIC AND OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO CEMENT A BOND BETWEEN POLICE OFFICERS AND THE YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY. SJPD'S PAL IS ONE OF THE OLDEST CITIZEN-BUILDING YOUTH PROGRAMS IN THE NATION. IT IS BASED ON THE CONVICTION THAT YOUNG PEOPLE - IF THEY ARE REACHED EARLY ENOUGH - CAN DEVELOP STRONG, POSITIVE ATTITUDES TOWARDS POLICE OFFICERS AND THE LAW. SOME 10,000 YOUNG PEOPLE ARE CURRENTLY PARTICIPATING IN PAL PROGRAMS. PAL'S SPORTS COMPLEX, BUILT WITH DONATED FUNDS, IS A REMINDER OF THE COMMUNITY COMMITMENT TO ITS YOUTH. THE COMPLEX, WHICH IS LOCATED AT KING ROAD AND HIGHWAY 280 IN SAN JOSE, FEATURES LIGHTED SOFTBALL, BASEBALL, FOOTBALL AND SOCCER FIELDS. PAL'S FORMULA IS SIMPLE. IT CONSISTS OF DEDICATED POLICE OFFICERS AND DEDICATED CIVILIAN VOLUNTEERS WORKING TOGETHER FOR ONE CAUSE - THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH. TO GUIDE YOUNGSTERS TOWARDS RESPONSIBLE AND MATURE CITIZENSHIP. TO PROVIDE A COMMON PLATFORM OF GROWTH FOR POLICE OFFICERS, YOUNGSTERS AND CITIZENS. TO ENCOURAGE THE AMERICAN PRINCIPLE OF GOOD WILL, FRIENDSHIP AND SPORTSMANSHIP.
