THE UNITED FARM WORKERS OF AMERICA'S PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO IMPROVE THE WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF ITS MEMBERS AND FARMWORKERS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPROVING WAGES, MEDICAL BENEFITS AND OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT.

THE UFW ESTABLISHED A NEW MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM FOR NON-UNION WORKERS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, RE-NEGOTIATED 5 UNION CONTRACTS COVERING OVER 1500 WORKERS THEREBY IMPROVING THEIR WAGES AND BENEFITS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO EXPANDED ITS PRESENCE IN OTHER STATES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE UFW CONDUCTED NUMEROUS TRAININGS FOR ITS WORKER LEADERSHIP THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THE UFW DISTRIBUTED OVER 100,000 FACEMASKS AND COORDINATED MEAL PROGRAMS TO FEED OVER 200,000 FARM WORKERS. THE UFW SUCCESSFULLY MOBILIZED OUR MEMBERSHIP TO ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF FARM WORKERS THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC. ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF LEGISLATIVE FUND IN 2021 INCLUDE PASSING EMERGENCY PROTECTIONS AND BENEFITS FOR FARM WORKERS DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC - PAID SICK LEAVE AND EMERGENCY OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY RULES IN CALIFORNIA AND WASHINGTON STATE, AND INCLUSION OF FARM WORKER ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS IN FEDERAL RELIEF INCLUDING SICK PAY FOR WORKERS AT COMPANIES THAT EMPLOY MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE. WE ALSO MONITORED CONTINUING PROGRESS ON POLICY WORK DONE IN PREVIOUS YEARS FOR EXAMPLE PHASING OUT THE USAGE OF THE BRAIN DAMAGING CHLORPYRIFOS IN THE LARGEST STATE (CA) FROM OVER 600,000 POUNDS IN 2021 TO LESS THAN 20,000 POUNDS IN 2020 AND 2021, ENFORCING HEAT ILLNESS STANDARDS, AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW OVERTIME PAY RULES. WE ALSO STOPPED SOME FEDERAL ATTEMPTS TO EXPAND THE ABUSIVE H-2A PROGRAM TO YEAR ROUND WORK AND A FEDERAL ATTEMPT TO REDUCE PROTECTIONS FOR DOMESTIC WORKERS AND WORKERS IN THE H-2A PROGRAM BY EMPLOYERS USING THE H-2A PROGRAM.
