JUNIOR CENTER PROVIDES PROGRAMS WHICH SUPPORT AND ENRICH THE K THROUGH 12 ART AND SCIENCE CURRICULUM IN OVER 300 ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL CLASSROOMS THROUGHOUT OAKLAND AND THE EAST BAY.

Part 3 - Line 4a

ON-SITE ACTIVITIES: AFTER-SCHOOL CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS WERE HELD IN OUR TEMPORARY SPACE AT LOTUS BLOOM (SEPTEMBER 2021- MAY 2022). WE HELD 3-5 QUARTERLY AFTER-SCHOOL ARTS CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS OFFERED ON A SLIDING SCALE TO STUDENTS AGES 5 - 14 YEARS OLD. TOPICS INCLUDED CARPENTRY, GAME DESIGN, ART ADVENTURES: PAINTING, DRAWING, AND COLLAGE, AND 3D PRINTING AND DESIGN. PROGRAMS WERE FOCUSED ON A COMBINATION OF SKILL BUILDING, TECHNIQUE AND HANDS-ON EXPLORATION AND PLAY. STUDENTS SERVED IN ALL AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES TOTALED MORE THAN 75. WE ALSO HELD WINTER AND SPRING BREAK CAMPS EXPLORING A RANGE OF ACTIVITIES IN THE VISUAL ARTS FROM COLLABORATIVE PAINTING WITH HOMEMADE BRUSHES TO PRINTMAKING WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS. BOTH CAMPS WERE TAUGHT BY OUR TEAM OF PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS IN A WARM AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT.


OFF-SITE ACTIVITIES:THE JUNIOR CENTER PARTNERED WITH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SITES THROUGHOUT OAKLAND AND THE GREATER EAST BAY AREA. RESIDENCIES RANGING FROM 16 TO 28 WEEKS WERE OFFERED AT FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY (4TH AND 5TH GRADE SERVING 210 STUDENTS), EMERSON ELEMENTARY (TK TO 5TH GRADE, INCLUDING SPED CLASSES) AND CARL B MUNCK ELEMENTARY (TK TO 1ST GRADE) ALL PROGRAMS ALIGNED WITH A STRONG FOCUS ON BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND AGENCY IN OUR YOUNG ARTISTS. FAMILY PROGRAMMING AT ALL THREE LOTUS BLOOM LOCATIONS- INCLUDED BIMONTHLY VIRTUAL MUSIC CLASS AND WEEKLY SCIENCE PROGRAMMING FOR FAMILIES WITH PRE-SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN. FAMILIES MET OUR RESIDENT ANIMAL AMBASSADORS, EXPLORED SCIENCE CONCEPTS, AND PARTICIPATED IN FUN HANDS-ON EXPERIMENTS. [CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O]


SUMMER CAMP:THE JUNIOR CENTER OFFERED OUR SUMMER CAMP AT OUR TEMPORARY SITE AT THE ROTARY NATURE CENTER. WE HOSTED 12 ONE TO TWO WEEK ARTS CAMPS FOR CHILDREN AGES 5 -14 YEARS OLD INCLUDING CARPENTRY, PAINTING, PRINTMAKING, CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY, MAKER EDUCATION, AND JUNIOR NATURALISTS. CAMPS WERE LED BY A TEAM OF PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS, SCIENTISTS, AND ARTISTS AND SERVED 167 STUDENTS. USING A CREATIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT APPROACH, THE CAMP DAY IS CENTERED ON COMMUNITY BUILDING AND HANDS-ON STEAM LEARNING. [CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O]
