THE FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1912 TO CONDUCT RESEARCH IN RICE. CURRENTLY RICE BREEDING RESEARCH IS THE PRIMARY MISSION. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PRODUCES THE BASIC SEED OF ALL PUBLIC CALIFORNIA RICE VARIETIES AND SELLS TO CALIFORNIA RICE SEED GROWERS TO ASSURE SUPPLY.

RICE BREEDING RESEARCH - PRIMARILY FUNDED THROUGH STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESEARCH CONTRACT FROM THE CALIFORNIA RICE RESEARCH BOARD, THE PURPOSE OF WHICH IS TO IMPROVE RICE PRODUCTION IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA BY DEVELOPING AND IMPROVING VARIETIES OF RICE. THE CALIFORNIA RICE RESEARCH BOARD HAS A MEMBER/LIASON THAT ATTENDS BOARD MEETINGS. THE CONTRACT FUNDING IS BASED UPON AN ITEMIZED BUDGET.


FOUNDATION SEED PRODUCTION - GROWS AND MAINTAIN BASIC RICE SEED STOCK FOR CALIFORNIA GROWERS IN ORDER TO INSURE GENETICALLY PURE SEED STRAINS, AS WELL AS CONDUCT OF OTHER GENERAL RESEARCH PROJECTS, INCLUDING THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AND UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE - ARS RESEARCHERS.
