LIBRARY SUPPORT- THE FRIENDS FUNDS ONGOING LIBRARY PROGRAMS SUCH AS PAGETURNERS BOOK GROUPS AND NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY, AND THE PURCHASE AND DISTRIBUTION OF LARGE PRINT BOOKS BY LIBRARY OUTREACH SERVICES. THE PAGETURNERS PROGRAM IS A YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM OF ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION GROUPS HELD AT ALL MULTNOMAH COUNTY LIBRARIES. THE 19 NEIGHBORHOOD LIBRARIES HOST AT LEAST ONE BOOK GROUP PER MONTH AND ARE OPEN TO ALL. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THIS PROGRAM WAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED IN MARCH 2020 UNTIL SUCH TIME AS PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS DETERMINE IT IS SAFE TO RESUME PROGRAM ACTIVITIES. DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR, FOL SUPPORTED THE LIBRARY THROUGH ADVOCATING FOR FUNDING ITS CAPITAL PROJECT.
BOOK SALES- THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE FRIENDS ACCEPT DONATIONS OF USED BOOKS, CD'S, VIDEOS, BOOKS ON CD'S, SHEET MUSIC, AND DVD'S WHICH ARE SOLD AT SPRING AND FALL BOOKS SALES, PLUS A SMALLER HOLIDAY SALE AT YEAR-END. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THIS PROGRAM WAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED IN MARCH 2020 UNTIL SUCH TIME AS PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS DETERMINE IT IS SAFE TO RESUME PROGRAM ACTIVITIES. ALTHOUGH THE IN-PERSON BOOK SALES DID NOT OCCUR, FOL WAS ABLE TO FACILITATE ONLINE SALES.
FRIENDS LIBRARY STORE- THE STORE, LOCATED IN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY, IS A GREAT FIND FOR BOOK LOVERS WHO ALSO LIKE TO SHOP. WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF CAREFULLY SELECTED LITERARY GIFTS AND QUALITY USED BOOKS, THE STORE FEATURE AN OUTSTANDING COLLECTION OF AFFORDABLE BOOKS, OREGON-THEMED SOUVENIRS AND UNUSUAL GIFTS. THE LITERATURE SECTION CONTAINS POPULAR FICTION, CLASSICS AND CHILDREN'S BOOKS. THERE ARE MANY TRADE PAPERBACKS AND HARDBOUND VOLUMES AS WELL AS FOLIO SOCIETY AND LEATHER-BOUND EDITIONS OF CLASSICS. THE NON-FICTION SECTIONS OF THE STORE ALSO INCLUDE BOOKS ON GARDENING, COOKING, ART, HISTORY, BIOGRAPHY, TRAVEL AND CURRENT EVENTS. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THIS PROGRAM WAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED IN MARCH 2020 UNTIL SUCH TIME AS PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS DETERMINE IT IS SAFE TO RESUME PROGRAM ACTIVITIES.
