WE PURSUE INNOVATIVE WAYS TO TRANSFORM HEALTH CARE BY KEEPING PEOPLE HEALTHY, AND MAKING OUR SERVICES MORE CONVENIENT, ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE FOR ALL. IN 2021, PROVIDENCE MADE PROGRESS TOWARDS ITS CLIMATE COMMITMENT TO BECOME CARBON NEGATIVE BY 2030. WE ARE IMPLEMENTING AN ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP SYSTEM STRATEGY THAT ENCOURAGES WASTE REDUCTIONS, EFFICIENT ENERGY AND WATER USE, LOCAL AGRICULTURE PARTNERSHIPS, LESS TOXIC AND FEWER CHEMICAL USE, AND A REDUCTION IN CARBON FROM TRAVEL.PROVIDENCE PORTLAND MEDICAL FOUNDATION PROVIDES OPERATIONAL AND CAPITAL SUPPORT TO A NUMBER OF HOSPITAL PROGRAMS. THE MAJORITY OF THE FOUNDATION'S ANNUAL FUNDING GOES TO SUPPORT CANCER RESEARCH EFFORTS FOR THE ROBERT W. FRANZ CANCER CENTER AND THE EARLE A. CHILES RESEARCH INSTITUTE. OUR SCIENTISTS CONTINUE TO MAKE DRAMATIC PROGRESS IN THE RACE TO FIND A CURE FOR CANCER USING THE BODY'S OWN IMMUNE SYSTEM. IMMUNOTHERAPY HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE HIGHLY EFFECTIVE IN SEVERAL TYPES OF ADVANCED CANCERS, INCLUDING LUNG, BLADDER, LYMPHOMA AND KIDNEY CANCERS, AS WELL AS MELANOMA.IN 2021, WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE TREMENDOUS GROWTH WITHIN CANCER RESEARCH RAISING OVER $7,500,000 FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF NEW SCIENTISTS AND SUPPORT THE ONGOING NEEDS OF THE CANCER INSTITUTE.WE RECEIVED A $5,000,000 GIFT TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SWEDISH WOMEN'S BRAIN HEALTH CLINIC WITHIN THE WOMEN'S WELLNESS CENTER IN SEATTLE, WA. THIS NEW PROGRAM WILL WORK TO SUPPORT WOMEN'S OVERALL HEALTH WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON WAYS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF DEMENTIA. WE ALSO SUPPORTED EFFORTS TO LAUNCH A NEW CARDIO-ONCOLOGY PROGRAM AT PROVIDENCE CANCER INSTITUTE. AN INITIAL $1,000,000 GIFT IN 2021 PROVIDED SUPPORT TO BEGIN THIS MULTI-DISCIPLINARY PROGRAM THAT COMBINES EXPERTISE FROM BOTH THE PROVIDENCE HEART INSTITUTE AND THE PROVIDENCE CANCER INSTITUTE, WITH THE GOAL TO PROVIDE SPECIAL CARE FOR CANCER PATIENTS THAT ALSO FACE HEART RELATED HEALTH ISSUES. OTHER 2021 HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:TREMENDOUS GROWTH WITHIN CANCER RESEARCH WHEREBY, FOUNDATION DOLLARS WERE USED FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF NEW SCIENTISTS AND SUPPORT THE ONGOING NEEDS OF THE CANCER INSTITUTE.THE START OF A NEW EMERGENCY SERVICES FUND TO HELP MEET THE GROWING PROGRAMMATIC AND CAPITAL NEEDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AT PROVIDENCE PORTLAND MEDICAL CENTER. FOUNDATION DOLLARS PROVIDED THE RESOURCES TO GIVE MUCH NEEDED SUPPORT TO OUR CAREGIVERS THROUGH A PHYSICIAN COACHING PROGRAM. THIS NEW PROGRAM LED BY PROVIDENCE STAFF, FOCUSED ON PROVIDING TOOLS AND COPING TECHNIQUES TO HELP TEAM MEMBERS THAT HAVE ENDURED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT DURING A PANDEMIC AND ARE FACING BURNOUT AND FATIGUE. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO CATHOLIC CHARITIES FOR ITS ADMINISTRATION OF THE HELPING HAND FUND, WHICH PROVIDED LIVING ASSISTANCE TO EMPLOYEES WITHIN THE PROVIDENCE HEALTH & SERVICES - OREGON CORPORATION.OTHER GRANTS & ALLOCATIONS TO PPMC FOR INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM, HOSPITALIST PROGRAM, HEART SERVICES, SENIOR HEALTH SERVICES AND THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT.
