THE FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO INDIVIDUALS WHO DEMONSTRATE ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND WHO HAVE FINANCIAL NEED IN PURSUING THEIR EDUCATION. THE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ARE AWARDED IN MEMORY OF SEVERAL INSPIRATIONAL EMPLOYEES AND ATHLETES OF THE MULTNOMAH ATHLETIC CLUB. WE PROVIDED THE JOE LOPRINZI, FAY SASSER, HOUSER, MEL FOX SCHOLARSHIPS, JOHNSON, AND MICHAEL S. MILLER TO 30 RECIPIENTS IN AMOUNT RANGING FROM $1,000 TO $10,000. WE PROVIDED THE JAMES F. AND MARION L. MILLER SCHOLAR ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP UP TO THIRTY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS FROM THE PORTLAND OREGON METROPOLITAN AREA. EACH RECIPIENT RECEIVES A $1,500 AWARD TO THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY OF THEIR CHOICE.
THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES COMMUNITY GRANTS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND THEIR PROGRAMS. IN JULY 2021 TO JUNE 2022, WE AWARDED 20 GRANTS TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR YOUTH ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION WITH LIMITED ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY. OUR MISSION AND FUNDING STRIVES TO SUPPORT YOUTH ATHLETICS, WHICH PROMOTES DISCIPLINE, LEADERSHIP, SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND SELF CONFIDENCE. IN 2021-2022 OUR GRANTS SUPPORTED GENERAL PROGRAM SUPPORT, AS WELL AS BASKETBALL, BICYCLING, TRACK AND FIELD, RACQUET SPORTS, SOCCER, OUTDOOR PROGRAMMING, AQUATICS, HIKING, SUMMER CAMPS AND AFTER SCHOOL ATHLETIC/ EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES.
THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED ITS GRANTMAKERS PROGRAM CALLED YOUTH GRANT INITIATIVE. THE PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS PROVIDES PROGRAMMING AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE PHILANTROPHY. THE PROGRAM WAS STARTED IN 2018 AND PROVIDED THE EXPERIENCE FOR 10 YOUTH AS THEY AWARDED $5,000 IN FUNDING UNDER THE FOUNDATION BOARD'S OVERSIGHT.
