PASSINART: A THEATRE COMPANY LAUNCHED ITS 2022-2023 SEASON IN A NEW SPACE, BRUNISH THEATRE IN PORTLAND 5 CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, WITH TWO SUCCESSFUL MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS OF A SONG FOR CORETTA BY PEARL CLEAGE AND BLACK NATIVITY BY LANGSTON HUGHES. WE WILL BE OPENING AUGUST WILSON'S SEVEN GUITARS THERE IN MARCH 2023. OUR SEASON ALSO INCLUDED THE INTRODUCTION OF PLAY READING MONDAYS, A SERIES OF SIX PLAYS, THREE OF WHICH WERE WORLD PREMIERES, PRESENTED IN VARIOUS VENUES AROUND NORTH AND NORTHEAST PORTLAND TO ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCES. OUR ANNUAL SWEET TASTE OF THE ARTS GALA BENEFIT WAS HELD LIVE ON MAY 14 FOLLOWING A TWO-YEAR VIRTUAL PRESENCE DUE TO COVID. WE HONORED LOCAL ARTISTS THAT HAVE IMPACTED THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OVER THE YEARS AND CELEBRATED COMMUNITY CREATIVES WHO SHARED STORIES ABOUT THEIR WORK WITH PASSINART. COMING EVENTS WILL INCLUDE OUR SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDES SCHOOL-AGE YOUTH WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN ONSTAGE AND BACKSTAGE SKILLS. PASSINART WILL ALSO BE HOSTING THE SECOND PACIFIC NW MULTICULTURAL FILM SERIES AND READERS FESTIVAL THIS SUMMER. THE FIRST FESTIVAL WAS BORN OUT OF THE PANDEMIC AND FIRST HELD VIRTUALLY IN 2021. THIS SUMMER, THE FESTIVAL WILL BE LIVE AND INTRODUCE AUDIENCES TO NEW WORKS FROM THE BIPOC ARTISTIC COMMUNITY. THE PASSINART STAFF WORKED DILIGENTLY AND SUCCESSFULLY TO SECURE GRANTS FROM OTHER FUNDING RESOURCES TO SUPPORT PROGRAMMING FOR THE 2022-2023 SEASON.
