PNWBD IS A VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE BY PROVIDING EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TO PERSONS WITH HEMOPHILIA AND OTHER BLEEDING DISORDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
THE SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM SERVES 70 TO 80 CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS EACH YEAR. THE CAMP IS HELD AT CAMP TAPAWINGO IN FALLS CITY, OREGON. THE CHILDREN HAVE A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES INCLUDING ARCHERY, SWIMMING, HIKING, CANOEING, ARTS AND CRAFTS, AND MUCH MORE. CAMPERS PARTICIPATE AS THEY ARE CAPABLE, EACH SETTING HIS OR HER OWN PACE. FOR MAY OF THESE CHILDREN, THEIR WEEK AT CAMP IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THEIR SUMMER, AND IS THEIR ONLY CONTACT WITH OTHER CHILDREN THAT SHARE THEIR BLEEDING DISORDER. FOR A WEEK, CAMP ALLOWS THEM TO FORGET THE LIMITATIONS PLACED ON THEM.
SEVERAL MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES ARE HELD TO PRESENT NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN TREATMENT, PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES, INSURANCE, AND OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES TO THE BLEEDING DISORDER COMMUNITY.
SEVERAL EVENTS ARE HELD FOR YOUTH, ADOLESCENTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES. THESE EVENTS ALLOW THOSE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY HEMOPHILIA AND OTHER BLEEDING DISORDERS A SUPPORTING ENVIRONMENT TO INTERACT WITH OTHERS WHO SHARE THEIR CONDITION.
