Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
PROGRAMS SUPPORT HOSPICE CARE IN FOUR COUNTIES (SKAGIT, ISLAND, SNOHOMISH, SAN JUAN). THESE FUNDS HELP TO ENSURE THAT COMPASSION AND DIGNITY ARE ALWAYS FIRST AND FOREMOST AT THE END OF LIFE. BECAUSE OF THE CONTINUED SUPPORT OF OUR DONORS, THE FOUNDATION WAS ABLE TO MEET OUR EXPECTED FINANCIAL PROMISES AND REMAIN FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO SUPPORT HOSPICE OF THE NORTHWEST WITH THEIR SHIFTING NEEDS AND EXPENSES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.THE FOUNDATION MAINTAINS A PLATINUM DESIGNATION, THE HIGHEST RANK, BY GUIDESTAR. GUIDESTAR IS A NATIONAL AGENCY THAT RATES THE TRANSPARENCY AND GOVERNANCE OF NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.
INTEGRATIVE THERAPY: AT THE END OF LIFE, SYMPTOMS OF PAIN AND SUFFERING CAN BECOME MORE PRONOUNCED. FOR THESE PATIENTS, INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES LIKE MUSIC AND MASSAGE CAN HELP MANAGE THEIR PAIN, ANXIETY, NAUSEA, DEPRESSION, AS WELL AS IMPROVE THEIR SLEEP AND RESTFULNESS. INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES ARE FUNDED SOLELY THROUGH DONOR FUNDS. PROTECTIVE PROTOCOLS AND EQUIPMENT ALLOW FOR SAFE MASSAGE AND MUSIC THERAPY.
ONE SIZE DOESN'T ALWAYS FIT ALL, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY OF LIFE. SOMETIMES, A PATIENT NEEDS SOMETHING THAT IS OUTSIDE OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED "ROUTINE" CARE BY MEDICINE AND MOST INSURANCE COMPANIES. SOMETIMES THOSE NEEDS ARE SIMPLE, LIKE A SECOND SET OF SHEETS, OR A BLENDER FOR A PATIENT WHO CAN ONLY TAKE LIQUIDS. AND SOMETIMES, THESE NEEDS CAN BE MUCH MORE CHALLENGING, LIKE THE PALLIATIVE RADIATION THERAPY THAT COULD HELP A BED-BOUND PATIENT WALK IN HER GARDEN AGAIN. THESE NEEDS ARE CALLED ATYPICAL TREATMENTS AND THEY ARE ESSENTIAL TO A PATIENT'S COMFORT AND QUALITY OF LIFE.
