HANDS FOR PEACEMAKING FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO ASSIST PEOPLE LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY IN THE NW HIGHLAND AREA OF RURAL GUATEMALA TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE, ESTABLISHMENT OR IMPROVEMENT OF WATER SUPPLY, SANITATION, COOKING METHODS AND BUILDING SCHOOLS FOR THE YOUTH.

VOLUNTEER GROUPS FROM NORTH AMERICA JOURNEY TO GUATEMALA TO HELP RURAL COMMUNITIES. ONE OF THE KEY WAYS THEY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IS BY INSTALLING ALER STOVES, WHICH ARE HIGHLY EFFICIENT FOR COOKING AND HEATING. IN ADDITION, THESE GROUPS ALSO CONSTRUCT ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSES IN THE VILLAGES. THEY ALSO HELP INSTALL WATER SYSTEMS, WHICH CONSIST OF 2500-LITER WATER TANKS, CATCHMENT AND FILTER SYSTEMS. THIS HELPS ENSURE THAT THE VILLAGERS HAVE ACCESS TO CLEAN AND SAFE DRINKING WATER. ALL OF THESE EFFORTS ARE IMPORTANT FOR IMPROVING THE HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE VILLAGERS.


PROVIDE STUDENT DESKS WITH CHAIRS, TEACHER DESKS WITH CHAIRS, AND WHITEBOARDS FOR EACH CLASSROOM CONSTRUCTED. DISTRIBUTE TEACHING AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO VARIOUS VILLAGES AND SCHOOLS.
