INVESTING EXPERIENCE AND RESOURCES TO STRENGTHEN AND ADVANCE INDIVIDUAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH. WE ENVISION A VIBRANT COMMUNITY WHERE EVERY CHILD GETS A HEALTHY START AND EVERY PERSON RECEIVES THE CARE THEY NEED THROUGHOUT THEIR LIFETIME.

GRANT MAKING + SCHOLARSHIPS: CHUCKANUT HEALTH FOUNDATION'S LEGACY OF GRANTING MAKING HAS RESULTED IN OVER $17 MILLION GIVEN TO WHATCOM COUNTY HEALTH RELATED NONPROFIT PROJECTS SINCE THE FOUNDATION'S INCEPTION IN 1982. GRANT FUNDING HELPS THE FOUNDATION ACHIEVE ITS VISION THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH NONPROFIT AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS BY SUPPORTING IMPROVEMENTS IN HUMAN RIGHTS, HEALTHCARE ACCESS, PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, AND MORE. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION HAS ESTABLISHED SEVERAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GRANTED TO STUDENTS PURSUING PROFESSIONS IN THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY. DURING 2022, THE FOUNDATION AWARDED OVER $260,000 GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND STUDENTS. NOTABLY, THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED A BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT AND STUDENTS PAINTING A MURAL AT THE SCHOOL. CURRENTLY, 44.9 PERCENT OF CARL COZIER ELEMENTARY IS ELIGIBLE FOR FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH DUE TO FAMILY INCOME. THESE GRANTS ENABLED ACCESS TO AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND PLACEMAKING TO CULTIVATE BELONGING IN OUR SCHOOLS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PROVIDED FUNDS FOR THE NORTHWEST YOUTH SERVICES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO ATTEND THE CONTEMPORARY DRUG USE CONFERENCE, PROVIDED RESOURCES TO SUPPORT TEEN/YOUTH/NEXT GENERNATION ENGAGEMENT IN A PUBLIC HEARING PROCESS, INCLUDING FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, AND A GUIDE TO THE LOCAL PUBLIC HEARING FORMAT, PROVIDED FUNDS TO FORM A COMMUNITY IMPACT COMMITTEE TO ADVISE ON ORGANIZATIONAL POLICIES AND SUPPORT SHIFTING TO A HEALING-CENTERED AND ANTI-RACIST ORGANIZATION, AND PROVIDED FUNDS TO SUPPORT COMMUNICATIONS WITH STAFF ACROSS ITS LOCATIONS.
FISCAL SPONSORSHIPS: THE FOUNDATION IS PROUD TO OFFER FISCAL SPONSORSHIP TO LOCAL PROJECTS AND GROUPS WHOSE WORK IS ALIGNED WITH OUR MISSION TO ADVANCE INDIVIDUAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH IN WHATCOM COUNTY. FISCAL SPONSORSHIP ALLOWS GRASSROOTS GROUPS TO FUNDRAISE FOR THEIR WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO ESTABLISH THEIR OWN 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT, HELPING TO FOSTER COMMUNITY-LED EFFORTS TO KEEP OUR NEIGHBORS HEALTHY. IN 2022, A FISCAL SPONSORSHIP WAS ESTABLISHED FOR VSED RESOURCES NORTHWEST, A GROUP OF LOCAL ACTIVISTS, EDUCATORS, AND CARE PROVIDERS SEEKING TO INCREASE COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF VOLUNTARILY STOPPING EATING AND DRINKING (VSED) AS A CONSCIOUS END-OF-LIFE CHOICE AND TO FURTHER ITS AVAILABILITY AND ACCESS.
CHF INITIATIVES: THE FOUNDATION'S WORK CENTERS AROUND SEVERAL INITIATIVES, INCLUDING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, AGING WELL WHATCOM, CONNECTING CARE/YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH, OPIOID PREVENTION, HEALTH EQUITY, CAPACITY BUILDING FOR NONPROFITS, AND CIVIC BELONGING. IN 2022, THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED SENIOR DAY EVENTS AND SPONSORED THE ELECTED OFFICIAL MEET & GREET TENT, CONNECTING POLICYMAKERS WITH SENIORS DIRECTLY. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDS FOR ASL INTERPRETATION, ARTISTS, AND EVENT SUPPORT FOR THE 24TH ANNUAL REV. DR. KING JR CONFERENCE, UNITY BALL, HONORING OUR ROOTS & ASCENDENTS OF THE MOVEMENT CELEBRATION, BLACK HISTORY MONTH ACTIVITIES, AND JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION. THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTED THE BRIGID COLLINS RISING TIDE EVENT, CONVENING LOCAL LEADERS TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND CONNECTIONS AS A LAUNCHING POINT FOR FUTURE COLLECTIVE ACTION.
COMMUNITY FUNDS AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: THE FOUNDATION HOST A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY FUNDS FOR GROUPS WHO ARE SEEKING TO FUNDRAISE FOR A SPECIFIC PROJECT OR CAUSE ALIGNED WITH THE FOUNDATION'S MISSION TO ADVANCE INDIVIDUAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH IN WHATCOM COUNTY. AT THE END OF 2022, THE FOUNDATION HAD 14 ESTABLISHED FUNDS AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS, INCLUDING: RACIAL EQUITY COMMISSION, LEAD, LAURENDEAU CANCER CARE, AND TODD MCCLURE MEMORIAL.
