THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL IS DEDICATED TO FEEDING, CLOTHING, HOUSING AND HEALING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO TURN FOR HELP.

OUR ASSISTANCE OFFICE HAS HELPED MANY HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES OVER THE PAST YEAR. THE TYPES OF ASSISTANCE IS AS FOLLOWS: FOOD BASKETS, RENTAL ASSISTANCE, UTILITY ASSISTANCE, FURNITURE AND FURNISHINGS,CLOTHING, MOTEL ASSISTANCE, VOLUNTEER HOURS AND MISCELLANEOUS ASSISTANCE, SUCH AS REQUESTS FOR DIAPERS, FUNERAL EXPENSES, BUS TOKENS AND PROPANE.
THE THRIFT STORE PROVIDES CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND OTHER DONATED ARTICLES AT A LOW COST TO OUR COMMUNITY. CURRENTLY, WE ARE ABLE TO EMPLOY OVER 30 PEOPLE. IN ADDITION, WE ARE COOPERATING WITH THE COUNTY TO GIVE EMPLOYMENT FOR 3 MONTHS PEOPLE THAT ARE IN A DRUG COURT PROGRAM. WHILE WORKING AT ST. VINCENT DE PAUL, THEY ARE PARTICIPATING IN CLASSES MANDATORY DRUG TESTING AND LEARNING HOW TO LIVE A CLEAN AND SOBER LIFE. THIS GIVES THEM SOME BASIC SKILLS AND HOPEFULLY A GOOD RECOMMENDATION FOR FUTURE EMPLOYMENT.
THE BIRKENFELD-STELLA MARIS WOMENS SHELTER HAS PROVIDED HOUSING FOR NUMEROUS WOMEN AND CHILDREN OVER THE LAST TWELVE MONTHS. WE ARE CONSIDERED AN EMERGENCY SHELTER AND CAN ALLOW EACH WOMAN UP TO 90 DAYS OF STAY WHILE THEY AVAIL THEMSELVES OF RESOURCES TO HELP THEM GET BACK INTO A SELF SUFFICIENT LIFE. A WOMANS GUILD HAS BEEN FORMED THAT WILL ASSIST THE SHELTER THROUGH FUNDRAISING AND OTHER MEANS TO SUPPORT THE SHELTER RESIDENTS.
