NORTHWEST HARVEST COLLECTS FOOD AND CASH DONATIONS TO PURCHASE ANDDISTRIBUTE FOOD TO FRONTLINE HUNGER RELIEF PROGRAMS AND INDIVIDUALS ATNO CHARGE. DURING THE 2022 FISCAL YEAR, MORE THAN 24.2 MILLION POUNDSOF FOOD WAS DISTRIBUTED. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:DISTRIBUTION - NORTHWEST HARVEST WAS PART OF THE STATE'S COVID-19 HUNGER RELIEF TASK FORCE IN AN UNPRECEDENTED EMERGENCY PARTNERSHIP.
ACCESS - WE EXPANDED ACCESS TO RURAL COMMUNITIES, BLACK, INDIGENOUS AND PEOPLE OF COLOR BY SERVING ADDITIONAL AREAS AND FACILITATED A CASH-EQUIVALENT PROGRAM WITH MAJOR CORPORATE SUPPORT; AND BYADDING VARIOUS COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS (IMMIGRANT ORGANIZATIONS, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING SITES, FAITH COMMUNITIES, SHELTERS & CLINICS) IN FOOD DELIVERIES IN SOUTH KING, PIERCE, YAKIMA & SPOKANE COUNTIES.
PUBLIC POLICY - EXPANDED ACCESS TO SCHOOL MEALS SUCH THAT OVER HALF OF ALL WASHINGTON STUDENTS CAN ACCESS SCHOOL MEALS WITHOUT COST OR BARRIERS, INCREASED FUNDING FOR A STATE FOOD BOX PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTS BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR OWNED FARM AND FOOD BUSINESSES TO PROVIDE FOOD TO COMMUNITIES WITH HIGHER RATES OF HUNGER AND FOOD INSECURITY, SECURED A DIAPER SUBSIDY FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN IN DEEPEST POVERTY THROUGH TANF, AND PASSED LEGISLATION TO INCREASE ACCESS FOR PEOPLE TO APPLY FOR PUBLIC BENEFITS IN-PERSON.
