MISSION: ACT IS A CONTEMPORARY THEATRE WHERE ARTISTIC AMBITION AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT UNITE. VISION: ACT ENVISIONS A WORLD WHERE THE POWER OF THEATRE EXPANDS OUR COLLECTIVE UNDERSTANDING OF COMMUNITY AND OUR OWN HUMANITY. ACT IS A SEATTLE LANDMARK. SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1965, THE THEATRE HAS MADE AND CONTINUES TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE VITALITY OF SEATTLES DOWNTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD AND ARTS COMMUNITY; IT HAS VALUED AND ELEVATED THE WORK OF LOCAL ARTISTS FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS; AND IT HAS TRANSFORMED INDIVIDUAL LIVES THROUGH THE POWER OF STORYTELLING. ACT CONTINUED LIVE PERFORMANCES IN 2022 WITH A THREE-PLAY SEASON AS A TESTAMENT TO ACTS COMMITMENT TO PLAYS WITH CONTEMPORARY THEMES, NEW WORKS, AND DIVERSE STORIES. BEGINNING WITH ACTS 46TH WORLD PREMIERE, "HOTTER THAN EGYPT" IS THE CAPTIVATING TALE OF AN AMERICAN COUPLES OWN PERSONAL REVOLUTIONS. THIS PERSONAL AND POLITICAL NEW PLAY BY ACT CORE COMPANY MEMBER YUSSEF EL GUINDI, SUBSEQUENTLY ENJOYED SUCCESSFUL RUNS AT MARIN THEATRE IN CALIFORNIA, DENVER CENTER THEATRE, AND IS NOW UNDER CONSIDERATION BY OTHER THEATRES. THE SEASON CONTINUED WITH "THE THIN PLACE," A COMPELLING AND DELICIOUS GHOST STORY BY LUCAS HNATH. BOTH PLAYS WERE STREAMED FOR REMOTE VIEWING TO GREAT SUCCESS. LYNN NOTTAGES PULITZER-PRIZE WINNING PLAY, "SWEAT," A POWERFUL STORY ABOUT BLUE COLLAR WORKERS STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE IN A FRAYING ECONOMY FINALLY MADE ITS DEBUT ON STAGE HAVING BEEN CANCELLED JUST DAYS BEFORE THE OPENING OF ACTS 2020 SEASON. ACTS 57TH MAINSTAGE SEASON HAD 84 PERFORMANCES SERVING 6,930 SUBSCRIBERS AND 7,599 SINGLE TICKET BUYERS FOR 542,647 IN TICKET REVENUE.
AFTER A 20-MONTH COVID CLOSURE, A CONTEMPORARY THEATRE RETURNED TO LIVE PERFORMANCE IN NOVEMBER 2021 WITH A THREE-WEEK RUN OF THE 47TH ANNIVERSARY PERFORMANCE OF "A CHRISTMAS CAROL" WHICH SERVED 9,366 TICKET BUYERS FOR 566,065 IN TICKET REVENUE.
