YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OUR YMCA IS COMMITTED TO NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY CHILD AND TEEN. WE BELIEVE THAT ALL KIDS DESERVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE. THAT IS WHY WE HELP YOUNG PEOPLE CULTIVATE THE VALUES, SKILLS, AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT LEAD TO POSITIVE BEHAVIORS, BETTER HEALTH, AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT. OUR YMCA CHILD CARE, CAMPING, YOUTH SPORTS, MENTORING AND TEEN PROGRAMS OFFER A RANGE OF EXPERIENCES THAT ENRICH COGNITIVE, SOCIAL, PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH. CHILD CARE - AS ONE OF THE LARGEST CHILD CARE PROVIDERS IN SNOHOMISH COUNTY, THE YMCA PROVIDES INFANT, PRE-SCHOOL, TODDLER, KINDERGARTEN AND BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE TO ENSURE OUR KIDS GROW UP HEALTHY AND STRONG. IN 2021, THE YMCA SERVED 1,133 CHILDREN AT 24 SITES IN 7 SCHOOL DISTRICTS SUPPORTING 54 SCHOOLS. CAMPING - YMCA SUMMER CAMP PROVIDES SAFE PLACES, CARING ADULTS AND POSITIVE ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS WHILE FOCUSING ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF FOUR CORE CHARACTER VALUES: CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. CAMPERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN NEW SKILLS, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, AND CHALLENGE THEMSELVES TO GROW IN SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY. IN 2021, 1,628 YOUTH GAINED NEW EXPERIENCES THROUGH A VARIETY OF SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCES. YOUTH SPORTS - IN 2021, 3,940 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN PROGRAMS LIKE SWIM LESSONS AND 3,402 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN TEAM SPORTS, LEARNING NEW SKILLS WHILE GAINING SELF-CONFIDENCE IN ONGOING WELLNESS ACTIVITIES. MENTORING - BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS (BBBS) AND THE MY ACHIEVERS PROGRAM (MAP) WORK TO CONNECT YOUTH TO POSITIVE ADULT ROLE MODELS TO ENSURE THEY DEVELOP INTO HEALTHY, PRODUCTIVE ADULTS. IN 2021, BBBS PROVIDED 115 QUALITY ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING MATCHES THROUGH SCHOOL BASED AND COMMUNITY BASED RELATIONSHIPS AT NO COST TO THE LITTLES OR THEIR PARENTS. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - THE YMCA OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY MAKES EVERY REASONABLE EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT NO PERSON, ESPECIALLY YOUTH, WILL BE DENIED ACCESS TO PROGRAMS AND MEMBERSHIP BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THE YMCA'S FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED BY CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR ANNUAL CAMPAIGN AND UNITED WAY. DURING 2021, $573,072 WAS PROVIDED IN DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO 1,353 YOUTH PARTICIPANTS.
HEALTHY LIVING THE Y IS A LEADING VOICE ON HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. WE BRING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER, ENCOURAGE GOOD HEALTH AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS THROUGH FITNESS, SPORTS, FUN AND SHARED INTERESTS. AS A RESULT, PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY ARE RECEIVING THE SUPPORT, GUIDANCE AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO ACHIEVE GREATER HEALTH IN SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT AS OUR NATION STRUGGLES WITH AN OBESITY CRISIS, FAMILIES STRUGGLE WITH WORK/LIFE BALANCE AND INDIVIDUALS SEARCH FOR PERSONAL FULFILLMENT. IN 2021, THE YMCA SUPPORTED 42,631 FACILITY MEMBERS AT 6 SNOHOMISH COUNTY LOCATIONS IN A VARIETY OF ASSET-RICH ACTIVITIES. MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN WELLNESS AND FITNESS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS GROUP EXERCISE, SWIMMING, BASKETBALL, YOGA, MARTIAL ARTS, GROUP CYCLING, RACQUET SPORTS AND WEIGHT TRAINING. MEMBERSHIP RATES ARE BASED ON AGE AND NUMBER OF FAMILY MEMBERS WISHING TO JOIN THE YMCA. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED BASED ON A SLIDING INCOME SCALE. HELPING PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES DEVELOP HEALTH IN SPIRIT, MIND, AND BODY IS AT THE CORE OF THE YMCA MOVEMENT. OUR FACILITIES AND PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE CREATE REALISTIC GOALS FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT AND EMPHASIZE CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION THROUGH REGULAR EXERCISE, PROPER NUTRITION, STRESS MANAGEMENT, AND HEALTH EDUCATION. ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS (AOA) IN THE YMCA EXPERIENCE A STRONG SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS AND A NETWORK OF FRIENDS WHO PROVIDE SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITIES FOR SUSTAINED HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. THROUGH ON-GOING, FUN, SAFE, AND ENGAGING PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS AOA MEMBERS INCREASE THEIR SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT WHILE BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS AND MILESTONES OF EACH OTHER WITHIN THEIR AOA COMMUNITY. OLDER ADULTS, 55 AND ABOVE, ARE A SIGNIFICANT AND GROWING SEGMENT OF OUR COMMUNITIES. DURING COVID, AOA BENEFITED FROM ENGAGING IN ONLINE YMCA ACTIVITIES AND ONE ON ONE PHONE CALLS THAT ENHANCED CONNECTIONS, DECREASED A SENSE OF ISOLATION, AND IMPROVED OVERALL WELL-BEING. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - THE YMCA OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY MAKES EVERY REASONABLE EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT NO PERSON, ESPECIALLY YOUTH, WILL BE DENIED ACCESS TO PROGRAMS AND MEMBERSHIP BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THE YMCA'S FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED BY CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR ANNUAL CAMPAIGN AND UNITED WAY. DURING 2021 $1,435,800 WAS PROVIDED IN DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO 13,134 INDIVIDUALS.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: THE YMCA OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY IS COMMITTED TO ELIMINATING FINANCIAL BARRIERS THAT CAN PREVENT OUR NEIGHBORS FROM ACCESSING Y PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. THE Y MEETS FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS WHERE THEY ARE THROUGH DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND SUBSIDIZED PROGRAMS ENSURING EQUITY OF ACCESS TO Y PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. AS PART OF OUR COMMITMENT, ALL SNOHOMISH COUNTY MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ELIGIBLE FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM ARE PROVIDED A SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED COST ANNUAL YMCA MEMBERSHIP. CARING FOR OUR CHILDREN THE Y IS THE LARGEST PROVIDER OF CHILD CARE IN OUR COUNTY. QUALITY, RELIABLE CHILD CARE IS CRITICAL TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, WORKING FAMILIES, AND HEALTHY COMMUNITIES. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION THE Y'S APPROACH TO OUTDOOR EDUCATION THROUGH CAMP IS CENTERED ON NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF YOUTH THROUGH EXPERIENCES THAT BUILD LIFE SKILLS, ENCOURAGE EXPLORATION AND DEVELOP A SENSE OF BELONGING. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, YOUTH LEADERSHIP, AND MENTORING YMCA YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP THROUGH ACADEMIC SUPPORT, COLLEGE READINESS, AND SERVICE LEARNING. THE Y IS INVESTING IN THE EXPANSION OF OUR AFFILIATION WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS BY ESTABLISHING PROGRAM CENTERS AND SUPPORTING MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH ALL BRANCH LOCATIONS. TEAM WORK, CAMARADERIE AND FUN FOR ALL YOUTH YOUTH SPORTS TEACHES KIDS CONFIDENCE AND HELPS THEM STAY ACTIVE WHILE MAKING FRIENDS IN A FUN, SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT. THE Y IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING ALL YOUTH HAVE EQUITY OF OPPORTUNITY THROUGH OUR ADAPTIVE SPORTS PROGRAMS, MIRACLE LEAGUE BASEBALL AND STINGRAYS SWIM TEAM. WATER SAFETY AND PROGRESSIVE SWIM SKILLS THE Y TEACHES CHILDREN AND ADULTS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT LIFE SKILLS THEY CAN LEARN: HOW TO SWIM AND BE SAFE AROUND WATER. WELL-BEING AND CONNECTION THE Y IS WHERE OUR ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS ARE ABLE TO RE-ESTABLISH COMMUNITY BY RETURNING TO AN ENGAGED AND ACTIVE LIFESTYLE.
