THE COMPASS ROSE THEATER IS A PROFESSIONAL THEATER ROOTED IN THE BELIEF THAT EDUCATION IN THE THEATER CREATES EXCELLENCE IN PERFORMANCE. WE SEEK TO INSPIRE PASSION FOR LIVE THEATER THROUGH EDUCATION IN THE DRAMATIC ARTS FOR ALL AGES. WE BELIEVE THAT THE EXPERIENCE OF THE CRAFT OF THE THEATER BUILDS NOT ONLY TALENT AND TECHNIQUE, BUT FOSTERS SKILLS FOR LIVING WHICH ENRICH THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE. PROFESSIONAL THEATER PERFORMANCES BY COMPASS ROSE THEATER UPHOLD UNPARALLELED ARTISTIC STANDARDS WHICH REFLECT OUR CORE VALUES AND COMMITMENT TO ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE. THE COMPASS ROSE THEATER IS A PROFESSIONAL TEACHING THEATER COMPANY. ARTISTIC DIRECTOR LUCINDA MERRY-BROWNE FOUNDED THE COMPASS ROSE THEATER TO OFFER PROGRAMS, PRODUCTIONS, AND CLASSES IN THE GREATER BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON AREA. OUR CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS ARE CURRENTLY OFFERED ONSITE AT OUR THEATER IN ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, AND AT MARYLAND HALL FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS, CHESAPEAKE ARTS CENTER, ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY PERFORMING ARTS MAGNET PROGRAMS, ST. MARTINS DAY SCHOOL IN SEVERNA PARK, THE KEY SCHOOL, ANNAPOLIS RECREATION DEPARTMENT, AND OTHER VENUES. THE COMPASS ROSE THEATER PRODUCES A FULL SEASON OF PLAYS AT OUR THEATER. PERFORMANCES ARE FULLY PROFESSIONAL, AND INCLUDE MEMBERS OF ACTOR'S EQUITY ASSOCIATION, THE UNION OF PROFESSIONAL ACTORS, AND STAGE MANAGERS IN THE UNITED STATES AS WELL AS NON-EQUITY ACTORS. IN KEEPING WITH OUR MISSION, PERFORMANCES ALSO INCLUDE STUDENTS OF ACTING WHO HAVE STUDIED WITH THE COMPASS ROSE FACULTY AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL COMPANIES. STUDENTS AUDITION WITH THE PROFESSIONAL ACTORS AND ARE SELECTED BY THE PROFESSIONAL CASTING PROCESS.ALL OF THE COMPASS ROSE THEATER FACULTY ARE TEACHING ARTISTS WITH A MINIMUM OF A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN THEATER FROM AN ACCREDITED INSTITUTION. SOME HAVE MASTERS DEGREES IN THEATER AS WELL. ALL OF OUR FACULTY HAVE TEACHING EXPERIENCE WITH A RANGE OF STUDENT POPULATIONS AND A DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO CHALLENGE AND STIMULATE THE CREATIVE PROCESS WITHIN STUDENTS INDIVIDUALLY AND AS AN ACTING ENSEMBLE.OUR APPROACH TO THEATER EDUCATION IS PROCESSED BASED, MEANING THAT ANY PERFORMANCE IS THE RESULT OF HARD WORK AND IN DEPTH STUDY OF TECHNIQUE, NOT THE GOAL. WE DO NOT SEEK TO PRESENT A POLISHED PRODUCT UNTIL THE BASICS OF THEATER KNOWLEDGE HAVE BEEN LEARNED. THE RESULT OF THIS BUILDING WORK IS THAT WHEN THE PERFORMANCES HAPPEN, THEY ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE RICH AND REWARDING WORK OF BECOMING AN ACTOR. AND THEY ARE EXCELLENT, SURPRISING AUDIENCES AT THE QUALITY WHICH CAN BE ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT ACTORS.
