2021 PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTSTHE DIFFERENT COMMITTEES WORKED TIRELESSLY TO HELP IMPROVE HUMANITY THROUGH OUR ORGANIZATION AND MEMBERS ESPECIALLY THE COMMITTEE CHAIRS PUT IN SEVERAL HOURS TO RECORD THESE ACCOMPLISHMENTS.NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE (NWC) - IN 2021, THE NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE MET EVERY MONTH EXCEPT MAY BECAUSE OF MOTHERS DAY, EACH MEETING LASTING OVER 3 HOURS. IT MEANS THAT EACH MEMBER OF THE NWC DONATED OVER 30 HOURS IN 2021 TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF NANNNA. MEDICAL MISSION COMMITTEE NANNNA ORGANIZES HEALTH/EDUCATION MISSIONS TO DIFFERENT STATES IN NIGERIA THROUGH TAKE NANNNA TO YOUR VILLAGE HEALTH INITIATIVES AND ENCOURAGES MEMBERS TO GO BACK TO THEIR VILLAGES AND STATES TO HELP IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE COMMUNITY. MEMBERS VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME, MONEY AND EXPERTISE TO HELP THEIR COMMUNITY THROUGH PREVENTIVE HEALTH SCREENINGS AND HEALTH EDUCATION. ABIA TEAM HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL ABIA HEALTH MISSION AND NURSING LEADERSHIP SUMMIT THAT TOOK PLACE ON JAN 3RD - 7TH, 2021. ALL THE NURSING LEADERS WERE VERY WELL REPRESENTED AND LEARNED A LOT ABOUT LEADERSHIP IN GENERAL. ABOUT 150 NURSE LEADERS ATTENDED THE SUMMIT. THANKS TO ALL THE SPEAKERS AND TO THE STAFF OF FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTER (FMC). THE TEAM ALSO HAD LOTS OF HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF ABIA VILLAGES AND RIVERS STATE SERVING OVER 1,000 PEOPLE.ONE OF THE NEWLY RENOVATED EHOR PRIMARY HEALTH CENTER, UHUNMWODE LOCAL GOVERNMENT, EDO STATE NOW HAS OPTICIAN, DOCTOR, LAB SCIENTIST AND NURSES ON SITE. THE CENTER PROVIDED CARE TO OVER 2,000 CLIENTS.EDUCATION MISSION COMMITTEE OUR FIRST SCIENTIFIC VIRTUAL CONFERENCE WAS HELD ON NOVEMBER 5TH AND 6TH 2021 AND THE THEME WAS GLOBAL HEALTH PRIORITIES: SUSTAINABLE HEALTH CARE DURING AND AFTER A PANDEMIC. IT WAS WELL ATTENDED BY ABOUT 275 NURSES. NANNNA (NY, NJ, & CT) IS COLLABORATING WITH MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING CANCER INSTITUTE ON COLORECTAL CANCER EDUCATION & SCREENING.DIASPORA PROFESSIONALS HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE (DPHI): NANNNA IN COLLABORATION WITH ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN PHYSICIANS IN THE AMERICAS (ANPA) AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN PHARMACISTS AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENTISTS IN THE AMERICAS (NAPPSA) PROVIDE QUARTERLY WEBINAR SERIES TO MODEL INTER-PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION AND DISCUSS CROSS-CUTTING TOPICS TO IMPROVE PATIENT SERVICES HERE AND IN NIGERIA.ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: NANNNA IS COMMITTED TO ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF ITS MEMBERS. NANNNAS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD IS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO RECOGNIZE MEMBERS WHO HAVE ADVANCED THEIR CAREER. THE AWARD IS GIVEN EACH YEAR, DURING NANNNAS ANNUAL CONFERENCE. OVER 35 MEMBERS GOT THEIR MSN. DNP/PHDS.NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE - THE NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE SUBMITTED AND PUBLISHED TWO NEWSLETTERS IN 2021.RESEARCH COMMITTEE PUBLISHED TWO ARTICLES IN AN INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL TITLED, HELPING NURSES COPE WITH COVID-19 PANDEMIC: EVALUATING SUPPORT PROGRAMSABSTRACT DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) PANDEMIC, NURSES ALL OVER THE WORLD, INCLUDING MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN NURSES IN NORTH AMERICA (NANNNA) EXPERIENCED A HEIGHTENED AND UNPRECEDENTED LEVEL OF STRESS, ANXIETY, FEAR, UNCERTAINTY, CONCERN FOR THEIR SAFETY AND THAT OF THEIR LOVED ONES. THIS PROMPTED NANNNA LEADERSHIP TO INITIATE AND CONDUCT SUPPORT PROGRAMS FOR NURSES ESPECIALLY THOSE ON THE FRONTLINE OF CARE. THIS PROJECT EVALUATES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SUPPORT PROGRAMS CONDUCTED BY NANNNA DURING THE EARLY SURGE OF COVID-19. THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROLS (CDCS) FRAMEWORK FOR EVALUATION IN PUBLIC HEALTH GUIDED THIS EVALUATION. FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION AND ONLINE SURVEY WAS UTILIZED TO GATHER DATA. WHILE 19% OF RESPONDENTS REPORTED BEING DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19, THE MAJORITY (81%) WERE NOT. ABOUT 44% OF RESPONDENTS HAD FAMILY MEMBERS WHO WERE DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19, WHILE 18% REPORTED LOSS OF A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER DUE TO COVID-19 COMPLICATIONS. MOST RESPONDENTS REPORTED THAT THE PROGRAM WAS IMPACTFUL IN INFORMATION SHARING AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT IN HELPING THEM FEEL CONNECTED WITH OTHER NURSES. HENCE, THIS SUBSEQUENTLY ENHANCED THEIR SUPPORT NETWORKS, PROVIDED EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL SUPPORT. SURVEY RESULTS REVEALED THAT NANNNA SUPPORT PROGRAMS HAD POSITIVE EFFECTS IN HELPING MEMBERS MITIGATE THE FEAR, ANXIETY AND UNCERTAINTY EXPERIENCED DURING THE SURGE OF THE COVID-19.
