BACKPACK BUDDIES OF METRO ATLANTA'S ONLY OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE WEEKEND MEALS TO FOOD INSECURE CHILDREN IN METRO ATLANTA TO ENHANCE THEIR MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH AS WELL AS THEIR ABILITY TO LEARN. THE ORGANIZATION SERVES OVER 1600 CHILDREN EACH WEEKEND AND PLANS TO INCREASE THAT NUMBER TO 5,000 EACH WEEKEND IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS. FROM APRIL '22 THROUGH DECEMBER '22, BBOMA SERVED 22,704 ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THE ATLANTA METRO AREA. THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN SERVED STEADILY INCREASES MONTHLY AS NEW COMMUNITY BUDDIES AND SCHOOLS ARE ADDED. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT BBOMA WILL SERVE 49,348 CHILDREN ACROSS DURING THE '22-'23 SCHOOL YEAR (AUGUST - MAY) AND 63,993 CHILDREN FOR THE 2023 CALENDAR YEAR.
