MINING JUSTICE FOR THE ENERGY TRANSITION WORK FOCUSES ON MINERAL EXTRACTION CONNECTED TO ENERGY TRANSITION TECHNOLOGIES AND THE NEED TO CONSIDER THE FULL IMPACT OF THEIR DEVELOPMENT WHILE USING THIS MOMENT OF NEW MINERAL EXTRACTION TO USHER IN BETTER MINING PRACTICES. DESPITE THE END USE OF THESE METALS ITS VITAL TO ENSURE THAT MINE PERMITTING IS AS PROTECTIVE AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THIS GREEN REVOLUTION DOES NOT BECOME AN ECOLOGICAL DISASTER IN YET ANOTHER ERA OF IRRESPONSIBLE EXTRACTION THAT WOULD PERPETUATE THE COLONIAL PROCESS THAT HAS BROUGHT THE WORLD TO THIS PLACE.

IN EARLY 2022 GBRW ORGANIZED THE NEVADA MINE REFORM COALITION TO DEVELOP SPECIFIC STATUTORY MINING REFORMS FORCED ON NEVADA STATUTES AND REGULATION AND TAKE THEM TO THE LEGISLATURE OR APPROPRIATE ADMINISTRATIVE BODY. OUR WORK ON INDIVIDUAL MINE PROJECTS HELP TO DEVELOP CONCRETE EXAMPLES OF WHY REFORMS ARE NEEDED AND WHO IS DIRECTLY AFFECTED. GBRW ALSO WORKS WITH NATIONAL AND OTHER LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS ON MINING REFORMS DIRECTED TO US LAWS AND REGULATIONS INCLUDING WORK TO DEFEAT BAD LEGISLATION. AT BOTH THE NATIONAL AND LOCAL LEVEL OUR REFORM WORK SEEKS TO ACHIEVE BETTER CONDITIONS ON THE GROUND FOR COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY MINING AND HEAD OFF POTENTIAL FUTURE DAMAGES.

GBRW MONITORS MINING ACTIVITIES GENERALLY IN THE GREAT BASIN AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND COMMUNITY DAMAGE. WE ENGAGE IN NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT (NEPA) PROCESSES AND STATE LEVEL PERMITTING, DRAFT TECHNICAL REVIEWS AS NEEDED, AND TAKE ACTION WHEN APPROPRIATE TO PREVENT OR AMELIORATE IMPACTS ON GREAT BASIN LANDS, WATER, AND COMMUNITIES. INTERFACING WITH DIRECTLY AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IS VERY IMPORTANT HERE AND OFTEN HONES OUR LIST OF TOP PRIORITY MINE PROJECTS FOR ACTION.
