IN 2021 THE HAWEGA FOUNDATION LAUNCHED THE WEBSITE HAWEGA.ORG AND WORKED CLOSELY WITH A MEMBER OF THE DATOOGA TRIBE IN EASTERN TANZANIA TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE FAMILIES OF 5 GIRLS TO NOT PRACTICE FGM ON THEIR GIRLS IN EXCHANGE FOR THE HAWEGA FOUNDATION TO SEND THEIR GIRLS TO SCHOOL. AFTER IDENTIFYING THE INITIAL 5 GIRLS IN OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, WE IDENTIFIED THE SCHOOL IN WHICH THEY WILL ATTEND STARTING IN JANUARY 2022.
